The Regional Government announces 35 Local Police officer positions across 20 city councils

The Regional Government of Extremadura (Junta de Extremadura) has announced a unified selection process, through a single tribunal and via an open competitive examination system, for the provision of 35 positions as agents of the Local Police Corps in municipalities across the autonomous community. The order, signed by the Vice Presidency and Ministry of Presidency, Coordination of Government Action, Interior and Emergencies, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cáceres number 0171, dated September 7, 2026, with official reference CVE: BOP-2026-4202.

The call is supported by Law 7/2017, of August 1, on the Coordination of Local Police of Extremadura, which enables single processes for filling new entry positions, and by Decree 64/2022, of June 8, which regulates the selection systems and the single tribunal. This is not the first time this route has been used: on April 27, 2023, the first process of this type was announced for 61 positions, and now 20 municipalities have delegated the selection of their Local Police staff to the Regional Government.

Distribution of positions

The 35 positions, categorized in group C, subgroup C1, are distributed among 20 city councils:

• Azuaga (4), Badajoz (4) and Montijo (4), the municipalities with the most positions.
• Alburquerque (3).
• Cáceres (2), Madrigal de la Vera (2), Monesterio (2) and Torremejía (2).
• Aceuchal, Almendralejo, Arroyo de la Luz, Burguillos del Cerro, Campanario, Ceclavín, Losar de la Vera, Maguilla, Puebla de la Calzada, Talarrubias, Torrejoncillo and Trujillo (1 each).

Requirements and selection process

To participate, applicants must have Spanish nationality, be at least 18 years old, hold a Bachiller, Technician degree or equivalent, have no criminal record for intentional crimes, and possess driving licenses of classes A2 and B before the selection course at the Public Security Academy of Extremadura (ASPEX).

The examination phase consists of five eliminatory tests: a knowledge test of 100 questions, a practical test with five scenarios, physical tests, a psychotechnical test, and a medical examination. As a novelty compared to previous calls, the deadline to challenge the questions of the first two exercises is reduced from five to three business days.

Applications and fees

Applications must be submitted within 20 business days from the publication of the announcement in the Official State Gazette (Boletín Oficial del Estado), once the full rules have been published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura and in the provincial gazettes. The examination fee amounts to 23.12 euros, with exemptions for victims of terrorism and gender-based violence, and a 50% discount for those who have been in a legal situation of unemployment for at least three months.

The qualifying tribunal will be chaired by Carlos Iván Gil Iglesias, with José Antonio Díaz Hernández, Soraya Izquierdo de Vega, and Javier Morales López as members and María Ángeles Muñoz Pelayo as secretary. Successful candidates will choose their posts in strict order of score, and those who do not appear will be assigned the remaining posts based on geographical proximity to their residence.

This call represents a significant opportunity for stable public employment for the entire region, as it unifies the selection of officers for 20 municipalities into a single process—from large capitals such as Badajoz and Cáceres to small rural towns—and reinforces the role of the Junta de Extremadura as the coordinator of local police forces.
