La Generalitat autoriza baterías en las plantas fotovoltaicas de Burriana

The Territorial Service of Industry, Energy and Mines of Castellón (STIEMC) has granted prior administrative and construction authorization for the hybridization with an electrochemical storage system of the photovoltaic plants PFV Burriana I and PFV Burriana II, both located in the municipality of Burriana (Castellón). The two resolutions, signed on February 3 and 11, 2026, by the head of the service, Gerardo Nebot García, are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Castellón number 108, dated September 8, 2026.

The processing has been carried out in accordance with Decree 88/2005, of April 29, of the Consell de la Generalitat, which regulates the authorization procedures for production, transport, and distribution installations of electrical energy under the competence of the Generalitat, within the framework of Law 24/2013, of December 26, of the Electricity Sector, and Royal Decree 413/2014, of June 6.

Two plants, two promoters

The hybridization of PFV Burriana I (file ATREGI/2025/31/12) corresponds to the promoter BEAVIER PHOTO POWER, S.L., and is located in polygon 39, plot 13. That of PFV Burriana II (file ATREGI/2025/15/12) corresponds to CORPORATE SOLAR HOLDING, S.A., in polygon 40, plots 84, 173, and 174. In both cases, these are photovoltaic plants already in operation, with 5,635 kW of installed capacity limited to 5,000 kW through a coordinated plant control system.

Storage characteristics

Each installation incorporates an electrochemical storage system with the following characteristics:

  • Nominal and installed storage capacity: 4,800 kW.
  • Access and guarantee capacity: 5,000 kW.
  • Maximum storable energy: 20,060 kWh (battery project of 5 MW, 20 MWh, 4 hours).
  • Connection point: SET Burriana 20 kV, on the distribution network of i-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes S.A.U..
  • Material execution budget: €1,392,748.61 (Burriana I) and €5,792,748.61 (Burriana II).

Both installations have valid access and connection permits and a favorable environmental impact report, issued by the General Directorate of Urbanism, Landscape and Environmental Assessment (files 134/2025/AIA and 135/2025/AIA), as they present no significant effects on the environment.

Deadlines and conditions

The authorizations are granted with an execution period of 24 months from notification, in accordance with article 131 of Royal Decree 1955/2000. Upon completion of the works, the holder must request provisional operating authorization and, subsequently, the definitive authorization and registration in the administrative registry of electrical energy production installations. Failure to comply with the conditions or the expiration of the access and connection permits will result in the revocation or invalidity of the authorizations.

Hybridization with batteries allows for the storage of energy generated by solar plants and its release into the grid during periods of peak demand, strengthening the management capacity of renewables in the Plana Baixa region and the stability of Burriana’s electrical grid. With these two authorizations, the territory adds nearly 9,600 kW of electrochemical storage capacity associated with existing photovoltaic generation.
