The DPT distributes 60,000 euros for sheep genetic improvement in Teruel

The Provincial Council of Teruel has approved the list of 18 native breed farms as collaborators of the Sheep Genetic Improvement Program in the province of Teruel 2026 and has granted a total of 60,000 euros to the six managing entities of the herdbooks. The decision is recorded in the Decree of the Presidency of the DPT no. 2026-3029, dated August 27, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Teruel number 165, dated August 31, 2026, with reference 2026-2547.

The program is part of the Corporation’s Strategic Grant Plan (2024-2027), approved by the Plenary on January 31, 2024, and published in the BOP no. 25, dated February 5. The call for applications was approved by Presidency Decree no. 2026-2323, dated June 17, 2026 (BOP no. 117, dated June 23), with a maximum allocation of 80,000 euros charged to budget application 2026/4120/47903, and is registered in the National Grants Database (BDNS) under number 913976.

Collaborating native breed farms

The decree approves 18 livestock farms of three Aragonese native breeds as beneficiary collaborating farms:

• Rasa Aragonesa: Alberto Riba Pons, Carlos M. Egea Domingo, SAT ARA 126 Hnos. Lorenzo, Ángel José Insa Carceller, Alejandro Ignacio Gil Burgués, Ricardo Sancho Gimeno, Daniel Abadía Gazulla, José Antonio Vidal Fabregat, Jorge Fernández Talabante, Hnos. Guillén Bayo S.C., Cristina López Fuertes, and Cristina Alos Domínguez.
• Ojinegra de Teruel: Carlos Bellés Bellés, Eliseo Mateo Torres, Santiago García Tena, José Joaquín Orta Balaguer, and Agropecuaria Soler Moles S.L.
• Maellana: José Antonio Cases Martínez.

Managing entities of the herdbooks

The six managing entities of the native breed herdbooks are approved as collaborating entities of the Council and beneficiaries of the program, with the following distribution of the grant:

• ANGRA (Rasa Aragonesa, CIF G-50094549): 14,000 euros.
• AGROJI (Ojinegra de Teruel, CIF G-44171411): 14,000 euros.
• UPRA (Rasa Aragonesa, CIF G-99163420): 14,000 euros.
• ACME (Merino, “Merina Montes Universales” variety, CIF G-28799633): 6,000 euros.
• ANGORCA (Cartera, CIF G-44164721): 6,000 euros.
• ARAMA (Maellana, CIF G-44171429): 6,000 euros.

Regulatory framework and processing

The grant is based on the Provincial Council’s General Grant Ordinance, approved by the Plenary on March 27, 2024, and published in BOP no. 102, on May 29, 2024. The file included a favorable proposal report from the Managing Service (July 28, 2026), one from the Technical Valuation Commission (July 29, 2026), and the compliance report from the General Comptroller’s Office no. 2026-1001, dated August 24, 2026. The granting and justification are subject to the obligations, deadlines, and conditions of the call and the General Ordinance.

Relevance to the sector

The resolution consolidates the Provincial Council’s support for the conservation of livestock heritage in Teruel by providing financial support to the entities that manage the genealogical records of indigenous breeds at risk of loss. The genetic improvement of the Aragonesa, Ojinegra de Teruel, Maellana, Cartera, and Merina Montes Universales breeds not only preserves biodiversity but also strengthens the competitiveness of sheep farms in the province, a key sector for Teruel’s rural economy.
