The Provincial Council distributes 100,000 euros among 47 rural pharmacies

The Governing Board of the Most Excellent Provincial Council of Burgos approved on August 13, 2026, the resolution granting subsidies to support rural pharmacies in the province located in municipalities with a population of fewer than 1,000 inhabitants, 2026 call. The resolution, processed under file 2026/00019755J, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Burgos number 165, dated September 1, 2026 (official reference BOPBUR-2026-03622).

The call, fully funded by the Provincial Council of Burgos on a competitive basis, distributes a budget credit of 100,000 euros charged to budget application 97/4390/47902/8.5 of the 2026 general budget. The instructing body was the Training, Employment, and Local Development Service, which formulated the proposal for the final resolution on July 13, 2026, following the favorable report of the Commission for Trade, Consumption, and Rural Employment issued on July 16.

Two subsidy lines

The seventh base of the call establishes two differentiated aid lines:

• VEC Line (compromised economic viability), of a preferential nature, for pharmacies recognized according to Order SAN/339/2013, of May 9, modified by Order SAN/626/2023, of May 11, of the Ministry of Health of Castilla y León.
• Non-VEC Line, subsidiary, aimed at pharmacy offices not declared as having compromised viability.

48 applications were received (11 for the VEC line and 37 for the non-VEC line). One of them was denied for not having a tax address in any municipality of the province of Burgos on the date of the application, as required by the fourth base. The remaining 47 applications meet all requirements and are beneficiaries.

Amounts and distribution of credit

The distribution is carried out according to the eighth base, prioritizing VEC pharmacies:

• 11 VEC pharmacies receive 2,700 euros each, totaling 29,700 euros.
• 36 non-VEC pharmacies share the remaining credit of 70,300 euros in equal parts, corresponding to 1,952.77 euros each, with a surplus of 0.28 euros.

The total approved expenditure amounts to 99,999.72 euros. The certificate of offices declared VEC for 2026 was issued by the Official College of Pharmacists of Burgos, and all beneficiaries are up to date with their payment obligations to the Provincial Council, with no pending repayments from the previous call.

Deadlines and procedure

The deadline for submitting applications ended on July 2, 2026, and the resolution had to be issued within a maximum of four months from that date. The final proposal was formulated on July 13, and the agreement of the Governing Board was adopted on August 13, with the grant being published in the provincial gazette on September 1.

The resolution includes the nominal list of the 47 beneficiaries in each line, as well as the express denial of the application that did not meet the requirements.

The measure reinforces the network of pharmacy offices in the smallest municipalities of the province, where the maintenance of these services is essential for rural healthcare. By prioritizing pharmacies with compromised economic viability and guaranteeing minimum support for the others, the Provincial Council of Burgos contributes to stabilizing the population and preserving access to medication in rural areas, a key factor for the territorial cohesion of the province.
