The Provincial Council reactivates the call for 22 Corporal positions of the SEPEI

Por FactBox Admin

The Provincial Council of Albacete has approved the modification of the rules and the reactivation of the call to fill 22 positions for Corporal of the Fire Extinction Service (SEPEI) through a competitive examination for internal promotion. The decision, adopted by presidential decree no. 3710 of August 13, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Albacete number 96, dated August 19, 2026, in the third section of Local Administration.

The process resumes after decree no. 3674 of August 7, 2026, lifted the suspension of the internal promotion processes corresponding to the 2025 Public Employment Offer, and following the agreement of the General Negotiation Table on July 29, 2026, which modified the application criteria for the examination phase. The original rules had been approved by decree no. 987 of February 23, 2026, and published in the BOP number 26, dated March 2, 2026.

Positions and Requirements

The 22 vacant SEPEI Corporal positions are included in the Special Administration Scale, Special Services Subscale, Fire Extinction Service Personnel Class, and are categorized in classification Group C, Subgroup C2. Vacancies that occur until the conclusion of the process may be added, subject to extension by presidential resolution.

To apply, candidates must meet the following conditions:

  • Hold, in active service or assimilated, a career civil servant position as a Firefighter Mechanic/Driver in the Council, with a minimum seniority of two years.
  • Possess a Compulsory Secondary Education Graduate degree or equivalent.
  • Be at least 16 years of age and not exceed the maximum compulsory retirement age.
  • Not have been dismissed from service nor be disqualified from public employment.

Applications shall be submitted electronically via the Council’s electronic office (www.dipualba.es), within a period of twenty business days from the publication of the summary announcement in the Official State Gazette.

Examination Phase and Physical Tests

The examination phase, which is preliminary and eliminatory, consists of two mandatory exercises. The first includes a questionnaire of at least 50 multiple-choice questions and a practical case with 10 questions, each rated from 0 to 10 points, with those who do not reach 5 points being eliminated. The second exercise consists of physical tests, in which the candidate is eliminated if they receive a “not fit” rating in two of them:

  • Standing long jump (two attempts).
  • 1,000-meter flat run (one attempt).
  • 50-meter freestyle swim (one attempt).
  • 5-meter rope climb (two attempts).
  • Bench press with 30 kg (one attempt).

Competition Phase and Grading

The competition phase, which is non-eliminatory, assesses only the merits of those who pass the competitive examination, through mandatory self-assessment. Professional merits are scored up to a maximum of 5.70 points (0.025 per month as Corporal and 0.017 per month as firefighter), and training and professional development up to 1 point. The final score may not exceed 26.70 points.

The qualifying tribunal will be presided over by Provincial Council personnel with a qualification equal to or higher than that required, with six members, a secretariat, and IT advisory. Successful candidates will take office within one month of the notification of their appointment, and those who pass at least the first exercise will join a waiting list for future temporary appointments.

The reactivation of this call unlocks the internal promotion of the civil servant firefighters of the Provincial Council of Albacete, a group aspiring to rise to middle management of the SEPEI after months of uncertainty due to the suspension of the 2025 OEP. The publication of the modified rules now starts the countdown for the submission of applications and the launch of a selection process that will strengthen the operational structure of the provincial fire extinguishing service.
