The Provincial Council of León extends deadlines for fire plan grants

The Provincial Council of León has modified the regulatory bases of the call for grants intended for town councils with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants to draft their local emergency action plans for forest fires, extending the execution and justification deadlines. The agreement was adopted by the Governing Board on August 28, 2026, and its summary is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of León number 171, dated September 8, 2026, with the official reference BOP-LE-2026-171001 and the National Grants Database identifier BDNS 891602.

The call, initially approved by agreement of the Governing Board on February 13, 2026, is processed under a competitive bidding regime and is aimed at the municipalities included in Annex III of the INFOCAL Plan, the community’s civil protection plan for forest fire emergencies. The modification affects the first and tenth bases, relating to the object and purpose and the deadline and method of justification, and is published in accordance with articles 17.3.b) and 20.8.a) of the General Grants Law 38/2003, of November 17.

Extended execution and justification deadlines

The most relevant change affects the call’s calendar. According to the new wording of the first base, the execution period for the activity will span from April 20, 2025, to June 21, 2027. For its part, the tenth base establishes that the justification of compliance with the imposed conditions and the achievement of the objectives set out in the granting act must be submitted no later than July 31, 2027.

The agreement also orders the publication of the summary in the National Grants Database, in the Official Gazette of the Province of León, and on the Electronic Office of the Provincial Council of León, as well as its notification to the interested town councils. The announcement appears signed by the Provincial Deputy for Ecological Transition, by virtue of Resolution no. 9827, of July 31, 2025, dated September 4, 2026.

Impact on rural municipalities

The extension of deadlines benefits dozens of small town halls in the province of León, many of them in high-risk forest fire areas, which will have more leeway to draft and justify their plans. The measure seeks to prevent the lack of technical and human resources in the smallest municipalities from compromising access to aid aimed at strengthening prevention and response to fires in rural areas.
