The Provincial Council announces the VI Nuestra Provincia Awards for Equality

The Provincial Council of Badajoz, through its Functional Area of Equality, has approved the specific bases and call for applications for the VI “Our Province, for Equality” Awards for the year 2026, with a total endowment of 15,000 euros distributed across six categories. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 175, dated September 14, 2026, via announcements 3513/2026 (full bases) and 3559/2026 (extract, with identification BDNS 928152).

The purpose of these awards is to grant public recognition to associations, federations, natural or legal persons, public or private, and entities linked to the province of Badajoz or any of its municipalities for their work in favor of women’s rights, in the fight against sex-based discrimination, and for their contribution to equal opportunities between women and men.

Regulatory framework and background

The call is framed within Organic Law 3/2007, of March 22, for the effective equality of women and men, and Law 8/2011, of March 23, on Equality between women and men and against gender-based violence in Extremadura. It is also aligned with goal number 5 “Gender Equality” of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda.

The resolution, signed by the President of the institution and by delegation by the Deputy Delegate of the Equality Area, Lourdes Linares Matito, is processed under a competitive bidding regime in accordance with the General Subsidies Law 38/2003 and laws 39/2015 and 40/2015. The expenditure is charged to budget applications 18/2013/46200/0500 and 18/2013/48003/0500, with the grant being conditional upon the existence of sufficient credit.

Six categories and 2,500 euros per award

Each category is endowed with 2,500 euros in cash, plus a commemorative detail, and the public award ceremony will be organized by the Delegation of Equality. The categories are:

• Category I: Public institutions or public centers with transversal equality projects.
• Category II: Non-profit entities (associations, federations, or collectives of rural women).
• Category III: Companies, social cooperatives, and other private entities with policies for reconciliation, parity, and against the wage gap.
• Category IV: Youth for equality, with awareness initiatives starting from childhood and adolescence.
• Category V: “Province Pioneer,” reserved for women who were pioneers in their professions.
• Category VI: “Charo Cordero” Award 2026, for individuals or entities of national or regional scope with a relevant role in real equality.

Submission of candidacies and evaluation

The proposals, addressed to the President of the Provincial Council, may be submitted by city councils, associations of municipalities, minor local entities, and equality offices within the province, as well as any public or private entity with its main headquarters in Badajoz, which may not apply for themselves. The submission period is 20 calendar days from the publication in the BOP, and any documentary deficiencies may be rectified within 10 business days.

Projects will be evaluated for a maximum of 50 points based on track record, gender perspective design, territorial scope, social impact, cooperation, and innovation. The award resolution will be published in the Official Provincial Gazette and on the Provincial Council’s electronic office, and funds will be paid by bank transfer once the resolution has been issued and published.

Relevance for the province

With this sixth edition, the Provincial Council of Badajoz consolidates a tool that makes visible and rewards work for equality in rural areas, ranging from education and the legal field to the business, sporting, cultural, scientific, and communication sectors. The incorporation of the “Charo Cordero” award expands the scope of the honors to the entire national and regional territory, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to real equality and the eradication of gender-based violence in the province.
