The Provincial Council announces the 1st Ángel Ganivet School Letter Competition

The Provincial Council of Granada, through its Delegation of Culture and Education, has announced the I “Ángel Ganivet” School Letter Contest, aimed at 1st-year baccalaureate students from educational centers in the province. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Granada number 177, dated September 14, 2026, with official reference BOP-GRA-2026-177002.

The contest is processed under a competitive bidding regime and aims to foster literary education, reading, and written expression through the epistolary genre, promoting values of personal reflection, creativity, and humanistic sensitivity among young people. The summary of the call is published in accordance with articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of the General Subsidies Law 38/2003, of November 17, and is registered in the National Subsidies Database with identifier 928373.

Recipients and Requirements

Educational centers located in the province of Granada that teach 1st-year baccalaureate during the 2026-2027 academic year may participate. Each center acts as a participating entity and submits the letters created by students who voluntarily wish to enter.

• Be enrolled in 1st-year baccalaureate at the participating center during the 2026-2027 course.
• The letters, whether real or fictional, may be addressed to any recipient: a mother, a friend, a relative, a teacher, a fictional character, or Ángel Ganivet himself.
• Minimum length of 200 words and maximum of 400, written in the Spanish language, with a clear and creative epistolary style.
• Content that addresses themes of human interest and reflections on universal values, using the letters from the anthology as a model, will be valued.

Prizes and Recognition

The jury will select a maximum of 15 finalist works, which will be part of a collective publication in book format, of which each author will receive four copies. Three individual prizes will be awarded among the finalists.

• Three individual prizes: an electronic reading device (e-book) for each author, up to a maximum amount of €200 VAT included.
• Prizes for centers: each finalist educational center will receive a set of books for its library or reading promotion activities, valued at €160.00, conditional upon the effective participation of the students.

The regulatory bases are the Budget Execution Bases of the Most Excellent Provincial Council of Granada 2026.

Deadline and Submission of Applications

The application period will remain open until December 15, 2026, with the count beginning the day following the publication of the summary in the Official Gazette of the Province and in the National Subsidies Database.

• Applications shall be submitted by educational centers via email to concursodecartas@dipgra.es.
• The standardized form provided as Annex I of the call for applications must be used.

Relevance of the initiative

The contest represents the first edition of an initiative that links the legacy of the Granada-born writer and diplomat Ángel Ganivet with the literary training of the province’s youth. By rewarding both students and centers, the Provincial Council seeks to consolidate reading and epistolary writing as tools for personal and cultural development, with a direct impact on school libraries and the creation of new readers.
