La Diputación convoca cinco plazas de músicos para la Banda Provincial

The Provincial Council of Guadalajara has announced selective tests to permanently fill, through a competitive examination process (concurso-oposición) and open call, five musician positions for the Provincial Band. The call and its specific rules are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Guadalajara No. 201, corresponding to Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in an announcement from the Human Resources Department spanning fifteen pages (official reference 2026_2752).

The five positions are for contractual staff and are assimilated into Group C, subgroup C1, assigned to the provincial corporation’s workforce. Their filling is part of the 2024 public employment offer of the Provincial Council of Guadalajara and was approved by the Governing Board in an extraordinary session on October 7, 2026. The text was signed in Guadalajara on October 19, 2026, by the president of the institution, José Luis Vega Pérez.

Five instrumental specialties

The call is divided into five positions, one for each instrumental specialty required in the band’s workforce:

  • Percussion.
  • French horn.
  • Tenor saxophone.
  • Oboe.
  • Trumpet.

The specific rules are supplemented by the general rules approved by the Governing Board on September 3, 2024, and published in the Official Gazette of the Province No. 181, dated September 23, 2024. The general duties of the positions include attending rehearsals, performances, and scheduled concerts, as well as complying with the artistic and organizational regime established by the Director of the Music Band.

Requirements, fee, and application deadline

Applicants must hold or be in a position to obtain a High School Diploma (Bachiller) or Technical Degree by the application deadline, in addition to meeting the requirements of the general rules. The examination fee is 19.32 euros, reduced to 9.66 euros for those who can prove more than six months of unemployment in the last year.

The application period is 20 business days starting from the day following the publication of the call summary in the Official State Gazette. Applications are addressed to the Presidency of the Corporation and should preferably be submitted electronically through the electronic office of the Provincial Council of Guadalajara, accompanied by the qualification, proof of payment, and, where applicable, documentation accrediting merits.

Two eliminatory exercises and a merits phase

The process allocates 75% of the total score to the competitive examination phase (oposición) and 25% to the merit phase (concurso), in accordance with Article 46.5 of Law 4/2011, of March 10, on Public Employment of Castilla-La Mancha. The competitive examination consists of two mandatory and eliminatory exercises, with a maximum of 75 points each and a minimum score of 37.50 points to pass each one:

  • First exercise: a multiple-choice questionnaire of 40 questions plus 5 reserve questions based on a syllabus of 40 topics, with a duration of 50 minutes; each correct answer adds 1.8750 points and each error subtracts 0.4688.
  • Second exercise: a case study or practical test of 50 to 90 minutes, valued at up to 10 points for the approach, 60 for development and result, and 5 for the explanation to the Tribunal.

No less than four months may elapse between the publication of the call and the holding of the exercises. The syllabus combines 8 general topics and 32 specific topics, with blocks dedicated to organology, rhythm, harmony, musical forms, the pasodoble, the zarzuela, and the role of percussion, horn, trumpet, oboe, and saxophone in the band ensemble.

Job bank and tie-breaking criteria

Those who pass the two exercises without obtaining a position will join a job bank, and another subsidiary bank is planned for those who pass only the first one. Ties will be resolved in the following order: professional merits, competitive examination score, training courses, complementary qualifications, and days of service as interim personnel in the position.

The call also incorporates adaptations of time and means for people with disabilities who request them, provided with the corresponding optional technical report, and refers the composition of the Qualifying Tribunal to the sixth base of the general bases.

The call opens a stable employment path for qualified instrumentalists from the entire province in a cultural reference institution, the Provincial Band of the Provincial Council of Guadalajara, and reinforces five specialties considered structural within the band staff.
