The Provincial Council announces scholarships for senior students at UJI

The Governing Board of the Provincial Council of Castellón agreed on September 1, 2026, to approve the specification of the bases and the call for study grants intended for senior students enrolled in the Universitat per a Majors of the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló (UJI) for the 2026/2027 academic year. The call, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Castellón number 106, dated September 3, 2026 (reference 03942-2026-U), has a maximum total amount of 15,000 euros.
The grants will finance, in whole or in part, the tuition fees and university taxes for Senior University Degree studies, Postgraduate studies, and the Course in Human and Social Sciences (Aulas para Mayores Program), as a measure to promote active aging. This line is part of Axis 2: Community Intervention of the I Strategic Plan for Social Services of the Provincial Council of Castellón 2023-2026.
Requirements for beneficiaries
Those who meet the following requirements may apply for the grants:
- Hold administrative residency in a municipality of the province of Castellón.
- Be 55 years of age or older.
- Be enrolled in the 2026/2027 course in the studies of the Universitat per a Majors of the UJI.
- Not be receiving another scholarship or financial aid for the same period.
- Provide proof of being unemployed or having the status of a pensioner or retiree.
Amounts and number of grants per modality
The call distributes the aid among the different study modalities:
- Senior University Degree: 14 grants for the first year, 15 for the second, and 15 for the third, with amounts of €157 (first and second year) and €178 (third year).
- Postgraduate Studies (Transversal or Specific): 30 grants of €178.
- Course in Human and Social Sciences (Aulas para Mayores, North, dels Ports, Interior, and Camp de Morvedre centers): 20 grants of €118.
Surplus grants from one modality may be assigned to applicants from others, following the priority of the score obtained.
Evaluation and deadlines
Applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis up to a maximum of 13 points, according to three criteria:
- Advanced age: up to 5 points (maximum for those over 70 years old).
- Lower economic income: up to 5 points (maximum for income below the IPREM, set at €8,400 annually for 2026).
- Presence of disability: up to 3 points according to the certified percentage.
The application period will be 20 calendar days from the day following the publication of the summary in the gazette. The justification for the grant must be submitted before December 2, 2026, and the waiver, if applicable, before November 20, 2026.
