La Diputación convoca 150.000 euros en premios al mejor aceite de oliva virgen extra

The Provincial Council of Seville has announced the awards for the best extra virgin olive oil of the 2026-2027 olive oil campaign, a grant line endowed with 150,000 euros and divided into three categories of 50,000 euros each. The call is published via extract no. 223930 in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) of Seville no. 211, dated Friday, October 30, 2026, with the official reference CVE: BOP-SE-2026-211001. Interested olive mills have ten business days to submit their registration.

The regulatory framework for the call consists of the regulatory bases approved by the provincial Corporation, published in BOP no. 209, of October 28, 2026, and also available on the Electronic Office of the Council. The line is processed under a competitive bidding regime by the Area of Supramunicipal Public Services, and the extract is disseminated through the National Grants Database with the identifier BDNS 938385, in accordance with articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Grants Law. The document is dated in Seville on October 23, 2026, and is signed by the general director of the area, José Antonio Hidalgo García.

Three categories and twenty-nine editions of history

The awards reach their twenty-ninth, nineteenth, and seventh editions respectively, and are structured as follows:

  • “Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil of the Province of Seville”, XXIX edition, with an honorable mention for the second-place finisher.
  • “Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil of the Sierras of Seville”, XIX edition, special prize.
  • “Best Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil of the Province of Seville”, VII edition, with an honorable mention for the second-place finisher.

Each category is endowed with 50,000.00 euros in cash and a special promotional campaign aimed at making the award-winning oils known during 2027 among the citizens of the province and specialized sectors, with a special presence at gastronomic events. The global funding, 150,000.00 euros, is allocated to the budgetary application 3201.41200.47902 of the 2027 budget.

Requirements: provincial olive mills and bulk oil

Owners of authorized olive mills that have their mill, winery, and registered office in the province of Seville may apply. In the Sierras modality, only oils from mills located in a closed list of municipalities are admitted:

  • Sierra Oriental: Alanís, San Nicolás del Puerto, Las Navas de la Concepción, Constantina, El Pedroso, Cazalla de la Sierra, Guadalcanal, and La Puebla de los Infantes.
  • Sierra Occidental: El Real de la Jara, Almadén de la Plata, Castilblanco de los Arroyos, El Ronquillo, El Castillo de las Guardas, El Madroño, and El Garrobo.
  • Sierra Sur: Martín de la Jara, Los Corrales, El Saucejo, Villanueva de San Juan, Algámitas, Pruna, Coripe, and Montellano.

Only bulk extra virgin olive oils from the 2026-2027 campaign are admitted, which must comply with Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 1348/2013 and Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/2104. The organic category requires certification by a control body delegated by the competent Andalusian authority, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007.

Blind tasting and delivery of oil

The registration period is ten business days from the publication of the extract in the Official Provincial Gazette via the BDNS. The samples, identified with codes, are sent to the laboratory awarded the service contract of the management area, which applies physicochemical analysis (quality, purity, and multi-residual) and sensory evaluation through an official panel of tasters. A maximum of three finalists per prize are selected, and the jury proposes the prize and runner-up after the tasting; prizes may be declared void.

The winning oil mills commit to delivering to the Provincial Council, in 500-milliliter glass bottles, 1,200 liters of the winning oil in the provincial category, 1,200 liters in the Sierras category, and 1,000 liters in the organic category, for promotional actions, tastings, and samplings. The payment of 50,000 euros per category is made once the award resolution has been issued, the protocol act has been held, and the oil has been delivered.

The call for entries consolidates a competition with nearly three decades of history and reinforces the position of the Sevillian olive grove at a key moment of the campaign: oil mills now have a two-week window to decide whether to compete for a prize that, in addition to the money, opens the door for them to promote the distinction on their packaging labels.
