The Provincial Council begins the withdrawal of subsidies to Reus Deportiu

The Governing Board of the Provincial Council of Tarragona has initiated the procedure for the partial loss of the right to collect the subsidy granted to Reus Deportiu, within the multi-year call for grants to non-profit sports entities that carry out activities of a singular nature in the district (year 2025). The agreement was adopted at the session on September 29, 2026, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Tarragona on October 5, 2026, with the reference CVE 2026-09113 (p. 4). In the same block of agreements, the body also opens a reimbursement file against Club Patí Cambrils.

The agreements are part of the extracts of the Governing Board of the Provincial Council of Tarragona corresponding to the session of September 29, 2026, published in the provincial gazette on October 5, 2026, under CVE 2026-09113 and signed by the general secretary, Josep Maria Sabaté Vidal, on September 30, 2026. The document contains 44 points, many of which are subsidies, contracts, and personnel files.

The affected call is the multi-year one for subsidies to non-profit sports entities that carry out sports activities of a singular nature in the district of Tarragona, referring to the 2025 financial year. The loss of the right to collect is the preliminary phase before demanding the return of amounts already advanced, and the published text does not specify the amounts affected in any of the cases.

A massive review of 2025 sports grants

The Provincial Council has not acted only against Reus Deportiu. In the same session, it opened files for the partial loss of the right to collect against a dozen sports entities:

• Club Judo Priorat-Terres de l’Ebre

• Club Futbol Amposta
• Club Esportiu Sala d’Esgrima Amposta
• Falset Esportiu

In four cases, the agreement goes beyond the partial loss and also includes the reimbursement of the advanced amount: Club Marítim Altafulla, Club Bàsquet Alcanar, Club Bàsquet Salou, and Club Patí Cambrils. The review is not limited to sports: the Provincial Council also initiates files against the Associació Provincial Tarraconense d’Atenció i Rehabilitació al Laringectomitzat and the Associació Xarxa Solidària per la Igualtat, within the framework of the 2025 call for social entities.

Reus Deportiu and Club Patí Cambrils, the cases with the most resonance

The two best-known clubs on the list are Reus Deportiu and Club Patí Cambrils, historic entities of hockey and sport in Tarragona. In the case of the Reus club, agreement number 31 is limited to initiating the loss of the right to partial payment of the 2025 subsidy, without the published text detailing the affected amount.

For Club Patí Cambrils, on the other hand, agreement number 41 combines both avenues: the loss of the right to payment and the reimbursement of the amount already advanced. The bulletin also does not specify the figure to be returned at this point, meaning the economic scope of the file is not yet public.

New grants for 2026

While the 2025 files are being reviewed, the Diputació (Provincial Council) keeps the grant line open. Point 34 of the same session approves the granting of subsidies to non-profit sports entities for singular activities in 2026, within the multi-year call, and point 39 does the same for sports councils for actions to promote healthy physical activity in the territory.

The publication in the official bulletin opens the period for the affected entities to present whatever arguments they deem appropriate before the Diputació de Tarragona. For the clubs, the start of these proceedings could lead to the loss of public income already budgeted and, in cases involving reimbursement, the obligation to return money already advanced by the provincial corporation.
