Carlos III appoints Jan Leonard Stuhler as Professor of Applied Economics

Carlos III University of Madrid has appointed Jan Leonard Stuhler as University Professor in the Knowledge Area of “Applied Economics,” assigned to the Department of Economics. The appointment is formalized by the Resolution of July 29, 2026, signed by the Rector, Ángel Arias Hernández, and published in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid number 201, dated August 24, 2026 (p. 36).
The decision was adopted in accordance with the proposal formulated by the Commission constituted to judge the competitive process for access to the position within the body of University Professors with identifier DF001264. The process is governed by Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, on the University System, and by the university’s own regulations governing the creation, announcement, and filling of teaching positions.
The competitive process
The position was announced by University Resolution on May 29, 2026, published in the Official State Gazette on June 5 and in the BOCM on June 8. Following the evaluation of merits by the judging commission, the Rectorate has resolved to appoint Jan Leonard Stuhler, with NIE ***4851, as University Professor in the area of Applied Economics.
The applicable regulatory framework includes:
- Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, on the University System and its implementing provisions.
- The Regulations of Carlos III University of Madrid regulating the creation, announcement, and filling of positions for the bodies of University Professors and Associate Professors, approved by the Governing Council in the session of February 12, 2024, and modified in the sessions of May 7 and October 24, 2024.
Appeals against the resolution
The Resolution, which exhausts administrative remedies, may be appealed by interested parties to the Rector through an Optional Appeal for Reversal within one month from the day following its publication. Likewise, a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed before the Contentious-Administrative Section of the Court of First Instance of Madrid within two months from the day following notification, in accordance with Law 29/1998, of July 13, regulating the Contentious-Administrative Jurisdiction.
A reinforcement for the Economics area
With this appointment, Carlos III University of Madrid consolidates its permanent faculty staff in the Department of Economics, one of the most relevant in the Madrid university system. The addition of a new professor in Applied Economics strengthens the institution’s teaching and research capacity in a strategic area for the training of economists and the analysis of public policies.
The resolution, signed in Getafe on July 29, 2026, represents a further step in the provision of university teaching positions through public competition, guaranteeing selection based on merit and capacity within the framework of the new university legislation.
