ICIB announces 2026 audiovisual production grants with 900,000 euros

The Balearic Islands Cultural Industries Institute (ICIB) has announced grants to support the production and co-production of audiovisual works for the year 2026, with a maximum amount of 900,000 euros. The call was approved by resolution of the president of the ICIB, Jaume Bauzà Mayol, signed in Palma on August 22, 2026, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) no. 110, of September 3, 2026, section III, page 47823 (resolution no. 8753).

The ICIB is a public business entity attached to the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports, whose objective is to promote the production, distribution, and dissemination of cultural content, with audiovisuals and digital culture among its initial areas of action. The call is framed within line III.7 “Protection and promotion of culture” of the Strategic Grant Plan 2024-2026 and is governed by Order 40/2024, of December 13, of the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, and by Regulation (EU) no. 651/2014, which exempts aid for audiovisual works from notification (article 54).

Four modalities and budget distribution

The grants are processed under a competitive bidding regime and cover four modalities of professional audiovisual production, with a specific allocation for each:

• Modality A (fiction and animation feature films): €350,000.
• Modality B (documentary feature films and documentary units for television): €250,000.
• Modality C (fiction, animation, and documentary short films): €100,000.
• Modality D (miniseries and web series of fiction, animation, or documentaries): €200,000.

The total amount of €900,000 is distributed among the annual installments of 2026 (€500,000), 2027 (€200,000), and 2028 (€200,000), charged to chapter IV of the ICIB budget. The maximum aid per production is €175,000 in modality A, €80,000 in B, €25,000 in C, and €100,000 in D, and no beneficiary may receive more than €175,000.

Who can apply for the grants

Self-employed individuals and legal entities that meet the following requirements may be beneficiaries:

• Have a tax domicile or a permanent establishment in the Balearic Islands, or commit to executing at least 49% of the production budget there.
• Have the status of an independent audiovisual producer.
• Be registered as audiovisual production companies in the administrative Registry of the ICAA or an equivalent body.
• Possess the intellectual property rights to the script and prove minimum financing of 20% of the budget (10% in modality C).

Applications must be submitted electronically to the Electronic Office of the CAIB within fifteen business days from the day following the publication in the BOIB, with a maximum of three applications per person.

Evaluation criteria and intensity of aid

Selection is carried out by competition, with a maximum score of 100 points divided into two blocks: Block A (subjective criteria, up to 50 points) assesses the quality of the script, the creative proposal, cultural references to the Balearic Islands, and the viability of the project, with a minimum of 27 points required to proceed to evaluation; Block B (objective criteria, up to 50 points) assesses the track record of the production company and the direction, filming in the Balearic Islands, and Balearic talent.

The aid cannot exceed 40% of the recognized cost of the work, although the percentage is increased to 60-85% in cases such as European co-productions, difficult audiovisual works, documentaries, works directed by women, or those filmed entirely in a co-official language. The work must be commercially premiered within a maximum of twelve months from the delivery of the final copy to the ICIB.

The call represents a direct opportunity for local production companies and creators, providing a stable financing framework to boost the audiovisual industrial fabric of the Balearic Islands and project their works in national and international spheres.
