Social Protection Board adjusts the prize exchange for the World Quiniela

The General Management of the Social Protection Board (JPS), a distinguished Costa Rican institution, approved an addition to Article 6 — Exchange of Prizes of the procedure for the 2026 World Cup Quiniela promotion, through official letter CARTA JPS-GG-1414-2026 dated July 29, 2026. The provision, published in La Gaceta No. 169 on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, establishes stricter requirements for bettors to collect the prizes obtained in this promotion.

The addition was approved by Board of Directors agreement JD104, corresponding to Chapter VI, Article 8, of ordinary session 12-2026, held on March 9, 2026. The notice was signed by the JPS Marketing Department, under the signature of its head, Evelyn Blanco Montero, and bears the official reference IN202601123883.

What changes for the winners

The new rule specifies that promotion winners must present the lottery ticket with which they were favored in order to collect. If a bettor wins a prize with the Popular Lottery or National Lottery draws that activated and participate in this promotion, they must exchange the prize of those winning fractions and keep the proof of exchange.

The prize exchange can be carried out at the following points:

• The central offices of the Social Protection Board.
• Through its commercial partners.
• The offices of the Banco de Costa Rica.

In all cases, the winner must request from the teller the respective receipt stating the details of the lottery ticket that was exchanged by the promotion winner, for the purpose of validating the prize obtained.

Essential requirement for collection

The provision warns that, in the event of failure to present the lottery ticket or, failing that, the respective receipt with the details of the exchanged lottery ticket, the corresponding prize for this promotion will not be credited. In this way, the JPS seeks to guarantee the traceability of the winning tickets and avoid claims without the corresponding documentary support.

The notice is published once in the official gazette, in accordance with the procedure established for this type of institutional communication.

Scope of the measure

The 2026 World Cup Quiniela is one of the national lottery’s highest-attendance promotions, linked to the regular draws of the Popular Lottery and National Lottery. With this addition, the JPS reinforces control over the exchange of prizes and clearly defines the steps that bettors must follow to make their collection effective.

For participants, the recommendation is to keep both the winning ticket and the exchange receipt issued by the teller, as both documents will be indispensable to validate and credit the promotion prize.
