Jerez urgently reopens the municipal sports instructor pool

Por FactBox Admin

The City Council of Jerez de los Caballeros has opened an extraordinary and urgent period of three business days to expand the pool of Basketball Coaches and sports monitors destined for the Municipal Sports School 2026/2027. The decision, adopted by the acting mayor, Mario Méndez Vázquez, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz, number 166, dated August 31, 2026, via announcement 3415/2026.

The measure responds to the need to fill positions due to leave of absence requested by some monitors, the suspension of contracts, and possible resignations, as well as the lack of applicants in the current pool. The deadline for submitting applications begins the day following the publication of the resolution.

An expansion motivated by urgency

The original call was published in the BOP of Badajoz, number 156, announcement 3526/2025, dated August 18, 2025, for the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 courses. Given the insufficiency of candidates, the Councilor for Sports has urged the urgent reopening of the process to guarantee coverage for the next season of the municipal school.

The resolution is supported by article 21.1.h) of Law 7/1985, of April 2, Regulating the Bases of the Local Regime, and article 33 of Royal Decree 364/1995, of March 10, which regulates the entry of personnel into the service of the Administration.

Requirements and documentation

Interested parties may apply for the positions of Basketball Sports Coach or Sports Monitor, through a competitive examination process, under labor law and on a temporary basis for the period between September 2026 and August 2027, both in the municipality and its outlying districts. They must provide:

  • Photocopy of the DNI, foreign card, or NIE.
  • Required academic qualification.
  • Negative certificate from the Central Registry of Sexual Offenders.
  • Certificate accrediting that they do not suffer from any illness or physical defect.
  • Bank proof of payment of the examination fee.
  • Project proposal and annex III of self-assessment.

Merit scale

The evaluation of the competition will be based on accredited training and experience:

  • Training in specific courses of the sports modality, sports management, physical education, or sports performance, with a maximum of 1 point.
  • Experience in sports activities at the City Council of Jerez de los Caballeros or another Public Administration, up to 3 points.
  • Experience in private companies, up to 1 point.

The resolution, signed by the acting mayor Mario Méndez Vázquez and certified by the acting secretary Inés María Barrios Torrado, will be published on the notice board and on the electronic headquarters of the city council, and will be communicated to the Audit, Treasury, and Personnel Departments.

The reopening represents an immediate job opportunity for the region’s sports technicians, who have barely three business days to formalize their application and ensure the continuity of municipal sporting activities during the next academic year.
