Por FactBox Admin

The Plenary of the City Council of Jerez de los Caballeros approved on 3 August 2026, in an ordinary session, the definitive text of the collaboration agreement with Red Eléctrica de España SAU for the execution of the 400 kV Brovales synchronous compensator project. The agreement has been published for general information in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 155, of 14 August 2026, through Announcement 3236/2026.
Background: a project already subject to public information
The project is not new to the administration: on 26 March 2026, the Industry and Energy Area of the Government Delegation in Extremadura published in the Official State Gazette the announcement by which the request for prior administrative authorization and construction of the installation was submitted to public information, with file number AIE 94-2026 (reference BOE-B-2026-9373). Months later, the Hon. Plenary of the City Council has approved the definitive text of the agreement, entitled “Collaboration agreement between the City Council and Red Eléctrica España SAU for the execution of the 400 kV Brovales synchronous compensator project”.
The text of the agreement is available to interested parties on the City Council’s electronic headquarters, and the announcement is published for general information, in accordance with the publicity of municipal agreements.
Key project data
The file processed by the Government Delegation in Extremadura includes the main technical data of the installation:
- Promoter: Red Eléctrica de España, Sociedad Anónima Unipersonal, with tax ID A-85309219 and registered office at Paseo del Conde de los Gaitanes 177, 28109, Alcobendas (Madrid).
- Location: 400 kV switchyard of the Brovales substation, in Jerez de los Caballeros (Badajoz).
- Purpose: to increase the resilience of the electricity transmission grid.
- Characteristics: new circuit breaker positions with AIS technology, conventional outdoor installation and breaker-and-a-half configuration.
Deadlines and appeals against the agreement
The agreement, which brings the administrative route to an end, admits two alternative appeal routes:
- Optional appeal for reconsideration, within one month, before the body that issued the act, in accordance with articles 123 and 124 of Law 39/2015, of 1 October, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.
- Administrative litigation appeal, within two months, before the Administrative Litigation Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Extremadura, in accordance with article 46 of Law 29/1998, of 13 July, on Administrative Jurisdiction.
Filing the appeal for reconsideration prevents recourse to the administrative litigation route until it has been expressly resolved or deemed dismissed by silence. The notice, dated in Jerez de los Caballeros, is signed by the mayor, Raúl Gordillo Barroso.
With this agreement, Jerez de los Caballeros consolidates itself as a strategic enclave of Extremadura’s electricity system: the Brovales synchronous compensator will reinforce supply stability and security in the region, improve the performance of the 400 kV grid in the event of disturbances, and facilitate the integration of renewable generation, a key infrastructure for the economic development of the territory.
