Javier González Pascual, new director of the Ordesa Park

The Government of Aragon has appointed Javier González Pascual as Conservation Director of the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, one of the most emblematic natural spaces in the community. The appointment is formalized through Decree 164/2026, of September 9, published in the Official Gazette of Aragon, number 180, of September 16, 2026, in section II on Authorities and Personnel.

The decree, signed by the president of the Aragonese Executive, Jorge Azcón Navarro, and by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Luis Biendicho Gracia, is issued at the proposal of the latter department and within the framework of the public call HAP/1166/2026, of August 10, published in the Official Gazette of Aragon, number 155, of August 12, 2026.

A forestry engineer at the helm of the park

Javier González Pascual is a career civil servant of the General State Administration, belonging to the State Forestry Engineers Corps, with personnel registration number **** 159957 A0101. According to the official text, he meets the requirements demanded in the call to occupy the position.

The new director is assigned to the Directorate General of Natural Environment of the Department of Environment and Tourism, with position number RPT: 19323.

Regulatory framework of the appointment

The appointment is based on two reference provisions:

• Article 11.2.c) of the Law on the Organization of the Public Service of the Autonomous Community of Aragon, whose consolidated text was approved by Legislative Decree 1/1991, of February 19.
• Article 24 of the Regulation on the provision of jobs, administrative career and professional promotion of the civil servants of the Administration of the Autonomous Community of Aragon, approved by Decree 80/1997, of June 10.

Relevance for the management of the natural space

The Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, declared in 1918 and expanded in 1982, is the second oldest national park in Spain and one of the most visited mountain destinations in Aragon, with hundreds of thousands of annual visitors. The designation of its conservation director conditions the management of conservation, public use, and coordination with the administrations involved in this protected space of the Pyrenees.

With this appointment, the Aragonese Executive completes the provision of a key position for the environmental management of the community, at a time when tourist pressure and the conservation of natural heritage demand specialized technical leadership.
