Itero del Castillo calls for the election of its titular justice of the peace
Por FactBox Admin

The City Council of Itero del Castillo has announced the public call for the provision of the position of permanent justice of the peace for this municipality in Burgos, as the term of the current holder is nearing its end. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Burgos number 169, dated September 7, 2026, with the official reference BOPBUR-2026-03677.
The decision is adopted in compliance with the provisions of Article 5 of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, on Justices of the Peace, which regulates the election procedure for these proximity justice positions. The edict, signed by Mayor Juan Chana Seco on August 25, 2026, invites all interested persons who meet the legal requirements to submit their applications.
Deadline and Method of Submission
Applications must be submitted to the general registry of the Itero del Castillo City Council within a period of twenty business days, counting from the day following the publication of the edict in the provincial gazette. Applicants must meet the requirements set forth in Article 1, second paragraph, of the aforementioned regulation.
Applicant Requirements
In accordance with the regulations for justices of the peace, candidates must meet the general conditions required for the exercise of the position:
- Be a Spanish citizen and a resident of the municipality.
- Be of legal age.
- Not be subject to causes of incapacity nor to the incompatibilities and prohibitions provided for in the Organic Law of the Judiciary and in Regulation 3/1995.
- Meet the requirements established for entry into the judicial career, with the exceptions provided by law.
A Proximity Justice Position
The justice of the peace is a figure of municipal justice who handles minor matters and conciliation acts in small municipalities, without the need to hold a law degree. Their election corresponds to the plenary session of the corporation, which proposes the appointment to the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Castilla y León.
The call from Itero del Castillo joins other similar ones published in recent weeks in the province of Burgos, where several city councils have opened processes to renew their justices of the peace upon the expiration of current mandates. Filling the position ensures the continuity of the proximity justice service in the municipality.
