Por FactBox Admin

The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Environment, and Environmental Policy of the Junta de Castilla y León has opened the public information process for the environmental impact study and the expansion project of a calf fattening farm in Cantimpalos (Segovia), which would grow from 599 to 2,355 places. The announcement is published in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León (BOCYL) no. 201, dated October 16, 2026, with the reference BOCYL-D-16102026-201-24 and file number EIAO2026/SG/010. The promoter of the facility is the company Ganados La Campana, S.L.U.
A fattening farm in polygon 1
The purpose of the process is the expansion project of a calf fattening farm—that is, intensive cattle breeding—promoted by Ganados La Campana, S.L.U. The data contained in the official announcement are as follows:
- Project: expansion of a calf fattening farm.
- Promoter: Ganados La Campana, S.L.U.
- Location: plot no. 472 of polygon no. 1 of Cantimpalos (Segovia).
- Capacity: from 599 places to 2,355 places.
- Instructing body: Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Environment, and Environmental Policy.
- Body to which the communication is presented: City Council of Cantimpalos (Segovia).
The activity is subject to an ordinary environmental impact assessment as it is included in Annex I, Group 1 (Agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, and livestock) of Law 21/2013, of December 9, on environmental assessment, under the case relating to facilities intended for the intensive breeding of livestock that have more than 750 places for dairy cattle and 1,100 places for fattening cattle.
Ordinary environmental assessment and subsequent communication
The agreement is adopted in accordance with the provisions of Article 55 of the consolidated text of the Environmental Prevention Law, approved by Legislative Decree 1/2015, of November 12, and Article 36.1 of Law 21/2013, of December 9, on environmental assessment.
According to Annex III of the consolidated text of the Environmental Prevention Law, once the activity has the mandatory environmental impact statement, it will be subject to environmental communication before the City Council of Cantimpalos, which is the body to which the communication is presented.
Thirty business days for allegations
The file may be examined for a period of thirty business days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León. The consultation is carried out under the following conditions:
- Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 14:00, at the General Directorate of Environmental Policy of the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Environment and Environmental Policy, located at Rigoberto Cortejoso 14, 47014 Valladolid.
- On the website of the Junta de Castilla y León, in the section for public information procedures of the Regional Ministry.
During this period, as many allegations and observations as are deemed appropriate may be formulated. The announcement was signed in Valladolid on October 1, 2026, by the Director General of Environmental Policy, José Guirao Sola.
A leap in scale for Segovian cattle
The projected expansion nearly quadruples the current capacity of the farm, increasing from 599 to 2,355 calf fattening spaces, an increase of 1,756 spaces on the same plot of polygon 1 of Cantimpalos. As it is an intensive breeding facility included in Annex I of the state environmental assessment regulations, the project is subject to the ordinary procedure, the most demanding, before it can obtain the environmental impact statement.
The process now opens for citizen participation: neighbors, associations, and any interested party have thirty business days to consult the environmental impact study and the project and submit allegations to the General Directorate of Environmental Policy. The final decision on the environmental viability of the facility will correspond to the Junta de Castilla y León, while the subsequent environmental communication will be resolved before the City Council of Cantimpalos.
