Información pública para las baterías BESS Polaris III en Los Realejos

The General Directorate of Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands has opened for public consultation the request for administrative authorization of the battery energy storage project named BESS Polaris III 343, with 2 MW and four hours of autonomy, in the municipality of Los Realejos (Tenerife). The announcement, dated September 10, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (Boletín Oficial de Canarias) no. 199, dated October 5, 2026, and is processed under file SE24/029.

The resolution is issued under Decree 141/2009, of November 10, which regulates the administrative procedures for the execution and commissioning of electrical installations in the Canary Islands; Royal Decree 1955/2000, of December 1, regarding the authorization of electrical energy installations; and Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure. The request was submitted on June 22, 2026, to the General Directorate of Energy, the competent body to authorize the project.

Technical characteristics of the installation

The objective of the project is the execution of a storage installation with the following characteristics:

  • Power of 2 MW, with an installed battery capacity of 10.03 MWh (approximately 4 hours of autonomy).
  • Installed inverter power of 2.52 MW, distributed across 12 units of 210 kW.
  • Two transformer units of 5.14 MVA and 0.69/20 kV.
  • Two storage containers.
  • Occupied area of 1,930.74 m², corresponding to the perimeter fencing.

Owner, budget, and evacuation line

The petitioner and owner of the project is Polaris Batteries III, S.L., and the material execution budget amounts to 979,606.84 euros. The project also includes the evacuation infrastructure for the stored energy:

  • A 450-meter section of 20 kV underground line, type RHZ1-OLAI(S) 12/20 (24) kV 3x1x400 mm².
  • The connection of the grouping’s sectioning and metering center with the SE Los Realejos 20 kV substation.

The project is subject to a simplified environmental impact assessment.

Deadline and submission of allegations

Any natural or legal person has a period of thirty days, starting from the day following the publication of the announcement, to examine the project and submit any allegations they deem appropriate. The documentation can be consulted at:

  • The office of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Edificio Administrativo de Usos Múltiples I, Avenida Francisco La Roche no. 35, 7th floor.
  • By prior appointment requested via email at stgro.energia@gobiernodecanarias.org.

The announcement is signed by the Head of the Energy Technical Area, Alberto Miguel Blasco Lorenzo, by delegation of the Director General of Energy (Resolution no. 462/2026, of March 20, 2026).

The processing opens the door for neighbors, groups, and affected entities to voice their opinions on an energy storage project intended to reinforce the island network and integrate renewable production in the municipality. File SE24/029 is thus exposed to public scrutiny before the General Directorate of Energy rules on its authorization.
