INE endorses name change to México Nuevo Paz y Progreso

Por FactBox Admin

The General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) declared the change of name of the National Political Grouping (APN) “Movimiento por el Rescate de México” to “México Nuevo Paz y Progreso” as admissible. The decision is contained in Resolution INE/CG474/2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on Monday, August 24, 2026, within the section for autonomous bodies.

The APN obtained its registration on August 21, 2020, through Resolution INE/CG207/2020, published in the DOF on September 10 of that year. Its current statutes were approved by Resolution INE/CG587/2022, dated July 20, 2022, which also determined the grouping’s full compliance with the Guidelines regarding political violence against women based on gender. The modifications now endorsed were approved by the grouping itself in its Extraordinary National Assembly on May 22, 2026, in exercise of its freedom of self-organization.

Change of name and new slogan

The reform modifies the Declaration of Principles, the Action Program, and the Statutes to replace the name of the grouping. Consequently, the slogan “Por el Rescate de México” is removed and a new slogan is adopted, with the purpose of providing consistency and uniformity to the elements that make up its institutional identity. The INE considered that the definition of the slogan is part of the freedom of self-organization recognized for APNs, as it is an identification element through which the principles, values, or objectives projected toward the citizenry are synthesized.

Extension of the reelection of the National Executive Committee

Article 40 of the statutes is reformed to extend the additional reelection periods for members of the National Executive Committee from one to two. Thus, those who compose said body may remain in office for up to nine years. The INE emphasized that reelection is not absolute, but is limited to two additional periods, which prevents practices of indefinite or lifelong exercise in leadership positions, in accordance with the criteria of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF).

Procedure and quorum

The INE verified compliance with the statutory procedure. The call for the Extraordinary National Assembly was approved by the National Executive Committee on April 19, 2026, and published on the following April 22. The assembly was installed with 51 of the 59 people entitled to attend, representing 86.44%, and the modifications were approved unanimously. Based on this, the General Council declared the constitutional and legal admissibility of the changes.

The resolution allows the group, now named “México Nuevo Paz y Progreso,” to govern its activities in accordance with its new basic documents. The change reinforces the institutional identity of the political entity and its validity within the regime of national political groups that participate in the strengthening of the country’s democratic life.
