INAGA denies the expansion of a pig farm in Abiego

The Aragonese Institute of Environmental Management (INAGA) has dismissed the environmental impact statement and denied the Integrated Environmental Authorization requested to expand a pig fattening farm to 2,790 places in the municipality of Abiego (Huesca). The decision is detailed in the Resolution of July 22, 2026, the publication of which is ordered in the Official Gazette of Aragon number 164, dated August 25, 2026, with reference BOA20260825024.
The resolution affects a project promoted by Explotaciones Oliveros, CB, processed under file number INAGA 500305/02/2025/05623. The expansion, equivalent to 334.8 LSU (Livestock Units), would be located in polygon 1, plots 25 and 22, of the aforementioned municipality in Huesca.

The publication is carried out in accordance with Article 58.2 of Law 11/2014, of December 4, on Environmental Prevention and Protection of Aragon, which orders the publication of the resolution in the official gazette. With the denial, the promoter will not be able to execute the expansion of the fattening farm under the requested terms, as it failed the environmental assessment and did not obtain the required integrated authorization.
INAGA’s decision is part of the debate on the impact of industrial farms in the Aragonese rural environment, where intensive livestock farming coexists with pressure regarding slurry management and territorial protection. For the farmers of the Somontano region, it represents a setback to a growth project, while for environmental groups, it reinforces the criterion that the expansion was not environmentally viable.
