Por FactBox Admin

The Department of Environment and Climate Change is submitting for public information the request for prior administrative and construction authorization, together with the environmental impact study (EIS), for the repowering project of the Monte Treito wind farm. The announcement was published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) number 160, on August 25, 2026, by agreement of the Territorial Department of A Coruña on August 10, and opens a 30-day period for submitting allegations.
The wind farm, in operation since 2001, will undergo a comprehensive technological renovation promoted by Iberdrola Renovables Galicia, S.A. (NIF A32259541), with registered offices at rúa Circunvalación 17, in A Rúa (Ourense). The action affects the municipalities of Dodro, Lousame, Rianxo, and Rois (A Coruña) and is processed under file IN408A 2025/019.
A comprehensive technological renovation
The project consists of the decommissioning of the forty (40) existing wind turbines and their replacement by seven (7) units of greater power and efficiency, maintaining the authorized maximum evacuable power. The decommissioning phase includes the removal of the wind turbines, transformation centers, foundations, a measurement tower, underground electrical conduits, and roads not foreseen in the new configuration, as well as the environmental restoration of the land and the adaptation of the existing electrical substation.
The authority to authorize the project corresponds to the General Directorate of Renewable Energies and Climate Change. The procedure is processed in accordance with Law 8/2009, of December 22, on wind energy utilization in Galicia, and Law 24/2013, of December 26, on the electricity sector, among other regulations. The electrical installations are subject to an ordinary environmental impact assessment, in accordance with article 7.1 of Law 21/2013, of December 9.
Figures and technical characteristics
The repowering provides for an installed capacity of 31.5 MW (7 wind turbines of 4.5 MW), an evacuable capacity of 30.39 MW, and a net annual production of 109,373 MWh. The material execution budget amounts to €33,995,697.07, with an execution period of nine (9) months.
- Seven (7) three-blade wind turbines from the manufacturer Vestas, model V136, 4.5 MW, with a rotor 136 m in diameter and a hub height of 82 m.
- Seven (7) transformation centers of 5,300 kVA and a ratio of 0.72/20 kV, installed inside each wind turbine.
- Underground 20 kV network connecting the wind turbines to the existing Treito 66 kV substation, with three circuits of RH5Z1-OL 12/20 kV single-core cable.
- Ethernet communications network with 16 single-mode optical fibers and a 50 mm² copper grounding network.
- Adaptation of the Treito 66 kV substation (file IN407A-1999/227-1) and evacuation through the LAT 66 kV overhead line (file IN407A 1999/226-1).
Period for allegations and consultation
The displayed documentation includes the execution project (approved on 15.1.2026) and the environmental impact study (signed on 21.1.2026). It may be consulted at the Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Service of the Territorial Department of A Coruña (rúa Vicente Ferrer, no. 2, 2nd floor, A Coruña), Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 hours, as well as in the town halls of the affected municipalities and on the department’s web portal.
Allegations or observations may be submitted within a period of thirty (30) days, counting from the day following the publication of the agreement in the DOG, in accordance with article 33.10 of Law 8/2009. The agreement is signed by the territorial director of A Coruña, Mª Pilar Arias Graña.
The repowering of Monte Treito is an example of the renovation process of the Galician wind farm, which seeks to increase efficiency and reduce the number of wind turbines while maintaining the evacuable power. For the residents of Dodro, Lousame, Rianxo, and Rois, the project has a direct environmental and territorial impact, therefore the public information period constitutes the opportunity to learn the technical details and submit allegations.
