Hungary dismisses seven judges on resignation and retirement grounds

Seven judges are being removed from the bench under a single presidential decision published in the Magyar Közlöny (issue 116, 24 August 2026). The measure, Decision 200/2026. (VIII. 24.) KE, was signed by Forsthoffer Ágnes, President of the National Assembly, who is exercising the powers of the President of the Republic, and takes effect on staggered dates between October 2026 and March 2027.

The decision rests on Article 9(3)(k) of the Fundamental Law and on the 2011. évi CLXII. törvény on the legal status and remuneration of judges, and was adopted on the proposal of the President of the Országos Bírósági Hivatal (National Office for the Judiciary). It is published in Section IX (Határozatok Tára) of the gazette, on page 4028.

Resignations

Two judges leave office on their own request, with the dismissals taking effect in October 2026:

• dr. Csorba Anikó — effective 1 October 2026
• dr. Handó Tünde Irén — effective 14 October 2026

Reaching the retirement age

Four judges are relieved of their posts because they have reached the general old-age retirement age, with the dismissals taking effect in March 2027:

• dr. Diószegi Attila — effective 1 March 2027
• dr. Kurucz Zsuzsánna — effective 20 March 2027
• dr. Hajnal Beatrix Hajnalka — effective 26 March 2027
• dr. Sára Katalin — effective 26 March 2027

Retirement on request

One judge is dismissed following a request to be placed on retirement status, taking effect on 28 February 2027:

• dr. Portisch Éva Erika

The decision was issued in Budapest on 17 August 2026 and carries the case number SP/2357-2/2026. It is one of a series of judicial personnel measures in the same issue: the gazette also publishes Decision 201/2026. (VIII. 24.) KE, appointing nineteen new judges from 1 September 2026, which points to an active renewal of the judicial corps.
