Hungarian tax authority sets September fuel prices for flat-rate accounting
Por FactBox Admin

The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has published the fuel prices applicable between 1 and 30 September 2026, in a notice carried in the Hivatalos Értesítő (Official Bulletin) of the Magyar Közlöny, issue 37 of 2026, dated 19 August 2026. The prices set the amounts that private individuals may use to account for their fuel costs under the flat-rate consumption norm without having to keep invoices.
The publication is made monthly under section 82(2) of Act CXVII of 1995 on personal income tax, which obliges the tax authority to announce the applicable fuel price for each month. The calculated price is the arithmetic average of the consumer fuel prices charged by three domestic fuel distributors on the first day of the month preceding the reference month, increased by one forint per litre or kilogram and rounded to the nearest forint.
The published prices
For the period 1–30 September 2026, the following prices apply:
- ESZ 95 unleaded petrol: 604 Ft/l
- Diesel (gázolaj): 667 Ft/l
- Mixture (keverék): 660 Ft/l
- LPG autogas: 351 Ft/l
- CNG: 800 Ft/kg
Who is affected
The notice concerns every private individual subject to the personal income tax act who accounts for fuel costs under the consumption-norm method. Where a taxpayer settles their fuel expenses at the published prices, it is not necessary to obtain an invoice for the fuel purchased.
The rates therefore serve as a reference for employees and self-employed persons who claim fuel costs for private car use, as well as for any taxpayer who opts for the flat-rate accounting of vehicle-related expenses.
Practical relevance
Because the prices are set monthly and reflect the average of the three main domestic distributors, they track market movements while giving taxpayers a stable, invoice-free alternative for cost accounting. The September figures confirm the current level of pump prices for petrol, diesel, LPG and CNG, and provide certainty for those who plan their monthly vehicle expenses in advance.
