Home Affairs re-declares Coffs Harbour Airport as security controlled

The Department of Home Affairs has revoked its 2023 declaration and re-declared Coffs Harbour Airport as a security controlled airport, establishing a new airside area under the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004. The decision, signed by a Delegate of the Secretary of the Department, was published in the Government Notices Gazette on 14 September 2026 as notice NTC-31238 (official reference C2026G00603).

The notice, dated 10 September 2026, was issued by Jaran Blethyn (Position No 48000469), acting as Delegate of the Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs. It takes effect upon publication in the Gazette and remains in force until otherwise revoked in writing and subsequently published.

Revocation of the previous declaration

The new notice formally revokes the earlier instrument NTC-25853, which had first declared Coffs Harbour Airport a security controlled airport. That earlier declaration was published in the Gazette on 8 December 2023 under reference C2023G01245.

Declaration and airside area

Under subsection 28(2) of the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004, the Delegate declares Coffs Harbour Airport a security controlled airport, with its boundaries defined on the attached map. In accordance with section 29 of the Act, the notice also establishes an airside area for the airport, being the area indicated on the same map.

• The airside area is the zone subject to the strictest aviation security controls.
• Operators and travellers within that area must comply with the security obligations imposed by the Act.

What the declaration means

As a security controlled airport, Coffs Harbour Airport becomes subject to the aviation security regime administered by the Department of Home Affairs. This imposes obligations on airport operators, airlines and travellers, including access controls, screening requirements and compliance with the security program framework under the Act.

The re-declaration updates the airport’s security status and its defined airside boundary, replacing the 2023 instrument with the current terms set out in notice NTC-31238.
