Solar hybridization with BESS storage in El Carpio de Tajo

The Provincial Delegation for Sustainable Development of Toledo has opened for public consultation the request for prior administrative authorization for the hybridization of the PSFV Portachuelo solar photovoltaic plant with a new electrochemical storage module, BESS Portachuelo, in the municipality of El Carpio de Tajo (Toledo). The announcement, signed on August 13, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha (DOCM) number 175, dated September 11, 2026, with reference PE-566-CV and document 2026/6176.
The procedure is processed under Law 24/2013, of December 26, on the Electricity Sector, and Decree 80/2007, of June 19, which regulates the authorization procedures for electrical energy installations to be processed by the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha. The project owner is the company Portachuelo Hive, S.L., which proposes the hybridization of an existing photovoltaic installation with a large-scale storage system.
A large-scale storage project
The PSFV Portachuelo photovoltaic installation has 40,010 kW of installed capacity and an access capacity of 35,000 kW. An electrochemical storage module (BESS) is being incorporated into it, with 35,000 kW of installed power and 140 MWh of storage capacity over four hours, which may also act as a demand installation with a maximum recharge power from the electrical grid of 15,000 kW.
The complete technical solution includes:
- Twenty-seven (27) units of BYD MC10C-B5365-U BESS containers.
- Four (4) units of Power Station Twin Skid Compact, each with two PCSK FP 4390K inverters of 4,375 kW and an 8,780 kVA 690 V/30 kV transformer from the manufacturer Power Electronics.
- An underground high-voltage network consisting of three sections, approximately 123 meters in length, connecting the four Power Stations with the new sectioning center.
Evacuation and location
The energy from the hybridized complex will be evacuated through the sectioning center CS Hibridación / CT SSAA, which acts as the hybridization point for both installations and has an auxiliary services transformer of 1,600 kVA. From there, it connects to the SET Portachuelo 132/30 kV substation, integrating the two existing evacuation lines of the photovoltaic plant.
Other evacuation infrastructures, not subject to this project, are the SET Carpio de Tajo 132/20 kV, with a 41,000 kVA transformer, and the interconnection line with the C.H. Castrejón Substation, owned by UFD. The storage module will be located in polygon 38, plot 3, within the plots where the photovoltaic plant to be hybridized is already situated.
Period for allegations
The file may be examined at the Provincial Delegation, at calle Huérfanos Cristinos 5 in Toledo, or through the website enabled by the Ministry. Allegations may be submitted within a period of twenty days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement. The announcement is signed by the provincial delegate, José Rubén Torres Moratalla.
The hybridization of photovoltaic plants with storage is one of the primary ways to strengthen the integration of renewables into the electrical system, as it allows the generated energy to be shifted to hours of peak demand. With 35 MW and 140 MWh of capacity, the BESS Portachuelo project is among the largest scale storage facilities in the region, a significant step for supply security and grid stability in Castilla-La Mancha.
