Guyana moves to cancel Yarowkabra state land lease for reallocation
Por FactBox Admin

The Commissioner of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission has given notice of a proposal to cancel State Land Lease No. SMR 3015, held by Kamerajie Ramkaran, over 0.4591 of an acre of State land at Lot 559 Yarowkabra Residential Area, on the eastern side of the Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The proposal, published as Notice No. 3097 (File No. 411212/559) in the Official Gazette of Guyana No. 383/2026 of Saturday 3 October 2026, would allow the land to be repossessed and reallocated. The notice is the third publication of the proposal, which opens a seven-day window for objections.
The notice sits in the Lands and Surveys section of the First Supplement of the gazette, the register in which the Commission advertises disposals, transfers and cancellations of State land. The same proposal was carried in the two preceding publication rounds, on 19 September 2026 and 26 September 2026, before reaching its third publication on 3 October 2026.
Cancellation is sought so that the State can take the parcel back and make it available again for allocation. The land is just under half an acre in the Yarowkabra Residential Area, a settlement belt along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Who may object and where
The notice is addressed to the leaseholder and to anyone else holding a right, interest or claim in the land. Objections must be lodged with the Commission, not with the leaseholder.
- Who may object: any person with rights, interest or claim in the land, or with just grounds to oppose the cancellation of Lease No. SMR 3015.
- Where: the Office of the Commissioner of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission, 22 Upper Hadfield Street, D’urban Backlands, City of Georgetown.
- When: during office hours, within seven (7) days from the date of the third publication.
- How: reasons for opposition set out in writing and duly signed.
The lease at issue
The notice identifies the lease, the holder and the parcel in full, and links the cancellation to a specific administrative purpose.
- Lease: State Land Lease No. SMR 3015.
- Holder: Kamerajie Ramkaran.
- Area: 0.4591 of an acre of State land.
- Location: Lot 559 Yarowkabra Residential Area, eastern side of the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
- Purpose: repossession of the land for reallocation.
- File No.: 411212/559.
Publication cycle and deadline
The Lands and Surveys section of the 3 October 2026 issue is headed “Third Publication”, so the objection period runs from that date. Counting seven days from Saturday 3 October 2026, the window closes on Saturday 10 October 2026.
The three-round format gives affected parties repeated notice before the Commission acts. The first round appeared on 19 September 2026 and the second on 26 September 2026, with the third and final round on 3 October 2026.
The notice matters beyond this single parcel. It is the last point at which a leaseholder or a third party with a claim can contest the loss of a State lease in writing, and the point at which the Commission clears the title before the land returns to the pool for allocation. Anyone with an interest in Lot 559 who does not object within the seven-day window will have no further opportunity to be heard before the cancellation proceeds.
