Girona puts 50 protected rental homes for young people out to tender

Por FactBox Admin

The Local Governing Board of Girona unanimously approved, in an ordinary session on July 31, 2026, the guidelines for the allocation of 50 official protected housing units under a general rental regime at Carrer de les Agudes 72-74, intended for individuals and cohabitation units up to 34 years of age for use as a habitual and permanent residence. The agreement is published in full in the Official Gazette of the Province of Girona (no. 161, of August 21, 2026), with the official reference BOP-2026_0_161_7426.

The development, promoted by the company VISOREN S.L. (NIF B62890751), located at Carrer Palomar 34 in Barcelona, consists of 50 homes and 50 linked parking spaces. The project is framed within the surface right established by agreement of the Plenary of the Girona City Council on January 16, 2023, in favor of VISOREN for the construction and operation of the building, and is governed by Law 18/2007 on the right to housing, Decree 75/2014 of the Plan for the Right to Housing, and Decree 106/2009 of the Registry of Applicants for Official Protected Housing of Catalonia.

Housing characteristics and reserves

Of the 50 homes, 44 have two bedrooms and 6 have three bedrooms, with internal useful areas between 58.32 and 80.36 m². All have a linked parking space, the cost of which is integrated into the rental price. Community expenses must be added to the rents, approximately 83 euros per month for two-bedroom homes, 98 euros for three-bedroom homes, and 24 euros for each parking space.

The distribution of the homes provides for reserves for specific groups:

  • 2 adapted homes with three bedrooms for people with reduced mobility (4% of the total).
  • 2 homes with two bedrooms for cohabitation units with a current single-parent family title.
  • 2 homes with two bedrooms for cohabitation units with at least one member who is a victim of gender-based violence.
  • 1 home reserved for a caretaker of the property, with maintenance and cleaning functions for the building, selected through the Municipal Employment Service of the City Council.
  • The remaining 43 homes (86%) form the general quota.

Requirements and access conditions

Individuals or cohabitation units registered in the Registry of Applicants for Official Protected Housing of Catalonia who meet the following requirements may participate:

  • Age: the applicant must be of legal age and the cohabitation unit as a whole must be a maximum of 34 years old (born after January 1, 1992).
  • Residency: registration (empadronament) in Girona for a minimum of 3 continuous years within the 7 years prior to the publication of the call.
  • Income: annual income of the cohabitation unit between 2 and 4 times the IRSC, with an economic effort for rent that cannot exceed 30% of income.
  • Composition: units of 1 to 6 members, depending on the number of bedrooms (1 to 3 members for those with two bedrooms; 4 to 6 for those with three).

Award Procedure

Applications may be submitted in person at the Municipal Housing Office (c. Pou Rodó 4) or at the Registration Service Offices (pl. del Vi 1), or electronically via the City Council’s Electronic Office. The deadline will begin on the working day following the publication of the call in the official bulletin.

The award will be made via draw before a public notary, with three independent draws for special quotas and one for the general quota. A waiting list will be created with a three-year validity to cover eventual vacancies, and the successful applicants must formalize the contract and occupy the dwelling within a maximum period of one month.

The publication of these rules opens the door to one of the most relevant protected rental promotions aimed at young people in Girona, in a context of increasing difficulties in accessing housing. With specific reserves for single-parent families, victims of gender-based violence, and people with reduced mobility, the call aims to ensure that the offer also reaches the most vulnerable groups.
