Girona allocates 10,000 euros to environmental grants for waste prevention organizations

The Girona City Council has published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Girona number 158, dated 18 August 2026, the extract of the call for grants addressed to non-profit environmental organisations. The resolution, signed by the mayor Lluc Salellas Vilar on 12 August 2026, aims to regulate the procedure for granting funding to environmental education projects and activities focused on waste prevention and awareness-raising. Objectives and themes of the call

The main purpose of the grant is to strengthen and promote projects and activities in environmental protection education, with a specific emphasis on waste prevention and awareness-raising. The call focuses on four specific types of waste:

  • Textile waste
  • Food waste related to food waste
  • Plastic waste
  • Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

The subsidised activity must be carried out in the neighbourhoods of the city of Girona and may involve both new and one-off activities as well as ongoing activities.

Requirements for applicants

Associations, foundations, cooperatives and other legally constituted non-profit organisations may benefit from these grants, provided they meet the established requirements. Among them, the following stand out:

  • Must be organisations dedicated to environmental protection, as evidenced by their statutory objectives
  • Submit a single application per call
  • Not have received grants from the Climate Action sub-area for the same purpose within the current year
  • Be up to date with tax obligations to the City Council and other administrations
  • Not have been subject to final administrative sanctions or court rulings for discriminatory practices on grounds of sex or gender

Organisations may not be in any of the situations provided for in Article 13 of Law 38/2003, of 17 November, General Grants Law.

Amount and deadlines

The total budget allocated to these grants is 10,000 euros, funded under budget item 2026 412 17000 48000 of the municipal budget for the 2026 financial year. Regarding the deadlines:

  • Application submission deadline: 20 working days from the day following the publication of the call in the BOP (i.e., from 19 August 2026)
  • Justification deadline: 3 months from the end date of the deadline for carrying out the activity

In the case of co-partnership or joint projects between two or more organisations, a single grant will be awarded.

The regulatory bases for this call were approved by the Plenary of the Girona City Council on 9 March 2026 and were published with final approval in the Official Gazette of the Province of Girona number 123 of 30 June 2026.
