Girona announces 50 protected rental homes for young people

The Local Governing Board of the Girona City Council, in an ordinary session on September 4, 2026, unanimously approved the public call for the award of 50 official protected housing units under a general rental regime at Carrer de les Agudes no. 72-74 in Girona, intended for young people aged 18 to 34 (both inclusive) and for use as a habitual and permanent residence. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Girona no. 175, dated September 10, 2026, with official reference BOP-2026_0_175_7928 (edict 7928, pp. 1-9).

The procedure is governed by the specific rules approved by the same Local Governing Board on July 31, 2026, published in the BOP of Girona no. 161, dated August 21, 2026, and by the official protected housing regulations, in particular Decree 106/2009, of May 19, which regulates the Registry of Applicants for Official Protected Housing of Catalonia and the award procedures. The development consists of 50 housing units and 50 linked parking spaces, although the housing unit intended for the caretaker is excluded from the draw.

Requirements and target recipients

Individuals and cohabitation units that meet the requirements of the rules may participate, among which stand out the current registration in the Registry of Applicants for Official Protected Housing of Catalonia on the date of publication of the announcement, and residence in Girona. Specifically, registration in the municipal census (empadronament) must be proven with a date prior to or equal to August 21, 2026, and a minimum of three years of continuous residence within the seven years prior to this date.

Current registration in the Registry of Applicants for OPH of Catalonia.
Residence in Girona (census registration on or before August 21, 2026).
Minimum of three years of continuous residence within the previous seven years.
Compliance with requirements regarding age, composition of the cohabitation unit, income, and economic effort.

Quotas and housing typologies

The award will be made by quotas and typologies, with separate lists for two- and three-bedroom homes. The planned distribution is as follows:

General quota for housing for up to 3 people: 39 2-bedroom homes.
General quota for housing for 4 to 6 people: 4 3-bedroom homes.
Specific quota for single-parent families with a valid certificate: 2 2-bedroom homes.
Specific quota for gender-based violence: 2 2-bedroom homes.
Specific quota for disability with a reduced mobility scale and need for adapted housing: 2 3-bedroom homes.

Each cohabitation unit will participate only in the quota and typology that corresponds to them, and the assignment will be made by draw with the configuration of reserve lists.

Deadline and submission of applications

The deadline for submitting applications is twenty (20) business days, starting the day after the publication of the call in the BOP of Girona. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be admitted. Documentation can be submitted in the following ways:

In person at the Municipal Housing Office of the Girona City Council (c. Pou Rodó no. 4, ground floor), by appointment via telephone at 972.419.404.
In person at the Registry Attention Offices (pl. del Vi, 1), by appointment via telephone at 972.419.010 or through the appointment website.
Electronically through the Electronic Office of the Girona City Council (seu.girona.cat).

The call will also be published on the municipal notice board, in municipal dissemination media, and on the website of the Registry of HPO Applicants of Catalonia. Against the resolution, which ends the administrative route, a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed before the Contentious-Administrative Section of the Court of First Instance of Girona within two months, or optionally, a request for reversal within one month.

A response to the demand for youth housing

The call arrives in a context of strong pressure on access to housing in Girona, especially for the youth population, and represents one of the most relevant protected rental promotions promoted by the council. With 50 homes and 50 linked parking spaces, the draw by quotas aims to guarantee access to groups with specific needs, such as single-parent families, victims of gender-based violence, and people with disabilities, while expanding the offer of affordable rentals for the city’s youth.
