The Generalitat regulates the taxi schedule in Valencia and the SAILGP service.

Entry into force of the new regulation

The Directorate General for Transport and Logistics of the Valencian Regional Government has issued Resolution of 4 August 2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Valencian Regional Government (DOGV) under number 2026-26687, which determines the mandatory rest days for the provision of taxi services in the joint service area of Valencia (APCV) for the year 2026. The document, signed by the Director General for Transport and Logistics, Manuel Ríos Pérez, enters into force from its date of signature and repeals the previous resolution of 1 December 2025.

The regulation is based on Article 15 of Law 13/2017, of 8 November, of the Regional Government, on taxis in the Valencian Community, which empowers the Administration to adopt measures to control taxi supply and harmonise competition among taxi drivers. It also invokes Order 7/2020, of 10 August, of the Regional Ministry for Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, which set the maximum daily service limit at 16 hours and which is now extended by the new resolution.

Maximum working day of 18 hours

The resolution establishes that all taxi authorisations in the APCV must provide service from Monday to Sunday, with a maximum of 18 hours per working day, in continuity with the provisions for 2025. This represents an increase of two hours compared to the previous limit of 16 hours set out in Order 7/2020, with the aim of ensuring adequate taxi service coverage for citizens.

The rest regime is organised as follows:

• Monday to Friday: Each authorisation rests one mandatory day, distributed by indicative letter (from A to E) depending on the last digit of the licence number (from 0 to 9).
• Weekends: Each licence rests alternately on a Saturday or a Sunday, depending on whether the licence number is even or odd. When the Saturday falls on an even date, taxis with even-numbered licences provide service and odd-numbered ones rest, and vice versa.
• Public holidays: On 12 October, even-numbered licences will rest; on 8 December, odd-numbered ones.
• Additional weekly day: An additional weekly rest day is added during the weeks of November and December.

Exceptional service for SAILGP

The resolution provides for service free of mandatory rest days during the international competition SAILGP held at the Marina Norte de València, in response to the demand of the sector’s majority associations. The enabled dates and time slots are:

• Saturday, 5 September: from 06:00 to 24:00 hours.
• Sunday, 6 September: throughout the whole day (00:00 to 00:00 hours).
• Monday, 7 September: from 00:00 to 06:00 hours.

During these days, all licenses in the Valencia metropolitan area, regardless of their rest shift, may provide service simultaneously to guarantee coverage of the international event.

Permanent exception for vehicles adapted for people with reduced mobility

The resolution also introduces a permanent exception for taxi licenses that have a vehicle adapted for people with reduced mobility (PRM) assigned to them. These authorizations are exempt from the mandatory rest schedule and the 18-hour daily limit throughout the entire period regulated by the resolution.

To qualify for this exception, taxi drivers with an adapted vehicle must:

• Be affiliated with a taxi distribution center, a radio dispatch service, or an electronic booking entity that guarantees priority service for people with reduced mobility.
• Display a visible badge on the dashboard from outside the vehicle.
• Guarantee the provision of adapted service 24 hours a day.
• Ensure coverage if the reservation request is made at least 24 hours in advance.

The Administration will monitor compliance with these obligations and may impose sanctions in the event of non-compliance.

Appeal and entry into force

The resolution, which does not exhaust the administrative route, may be appealed before the Regional Secretariat for Infrastructure and Transport within one month of its publication in the DOGV, in accordance with articles 121 and 122 of Law 39/2015, of 1 October, on the common administrative procedure of public administrations.

For the thousands of taxi drivers and users in the Valencia metropolitan area, the regulation represents an extension of the daily working hours and the guarantee of continuous service during the SAILGP event, which is one of the main international sporting events in the Valencian Community in autumn 2026. The measure seeks to balance transport demand with rest for the professional group, while the exemption for adapted vehicles responds to the historic shortage of accessible taxis for people with reduced mobility in the area.
