Galicia allocates 2.5 million to councils to hire women victims of violence

The Department of Social Policy and Equality published this Friday, September 18, in the Official Gazette of Galicia the list of grants awarded to Galician local entities for the promotion of the hiring of women who suffer from gender-based violence. The total amount granted amounts to 2,499,844.75 euros, charged to earmarked State funds destined for the development of the measures of the State Pact against gender-based violence. The resolution, dated September 9, 2026, occupies section III of DOG number 178, pages 49375 to 49377, with the official reference CVE-DOG: 7j5koo40-zdc2-86r4-lio2-gxcrt26d0hl9.

The publication complies with article 15.1 of Law 9/2007, of June 13, on grants in Galicia, which requires the publication of granted subsidies in the official gazette, stating the call, the program and the budgetary credit, the beneficiary entity, the amount granted, and the purpose. The regulatory bases are established in the Order of December 18, 2025, published in DOG number 11 on January 19, 2026, which calls for procedure SI461A for the year 2026.

The resolution is signed by delegation by Roberto Barba Alvedro, Director General for the Fight against Gender-Based Violence, by virtue of article 19 of the call order. The funding is allocated to budgetary application 08.06.313D.460.1, with project code 2018 000112.

State funds for labor insertion

The purpose of the aid is to promote the hiring of women who suffer from gender-based violence within the framework of collaboration with Galician local entities. The item is financed with earmarked State funds, which the general State budgets allocate to the development or expansion of the measures included in the State Pact against gender-based violence.

The annex to the resolution details 52 grants, identified by file number, the beneficiary local entity, the NIF, and the amount. Most of the grants are around 22,000 euros, although the larger municipalities receive significantly higher amounts.

The municipalities with the most funding

The local entities receiving the highest amounts are:

• Santiago de Compostela City Council (SI461A 2026-32): 166,335.24 euros.
• Ferrol City Council (SI461A 2026-52): 147,594.79 euros.
• Arteixo City Council (SI461A 2026-12): 118,091.04 euros.
• Ponteareas City Council (SI461A 2026-49): 96,277.44 euros.
• Vilagarcía de Arousa City Council (SI461A 2026-45): 93,829.20 euros.
• Lalín City Council (SI461A 2026-44): 91,948.80 euros.
• O Porriño City Council (SI461A 2026-18): 91,282.08 euros.
• Marín City Council (SI461A 2026-38): 88,515.84 euros.

Among the smallest grants are those for the Concello de Santiso (SI461A 2026-1), with 22,820.52 euros; Concello de Larouco (SI461A 2026-9), with 22,452.24 euros; and Concello de Covelo (SI461A 2026-27), with 22,128.84 euros.

Mancomunidades and territorial distribution

In addition to the councils, the distribution includes three mancomunidades (associations of municipalities), totaling 81,280.44 euros:

• Mancomunidade Conso-Frieiras (SI461A 2026-20): 22,910.16 euros.
• Mancomunidade Terra de Celanova (SI461A 2026-22): 41,531.16 euros.
• Mancomunidade Municipios Comarca de Verín (SI461A 2026-33): 16,839.12 euros.

The list covers entities from the four provinces, with a prominent presence of councils from the regions of Ourense, Pontevedra, Lugo, and A Coruña. The sum of all grants coincides with the total amount declared in the resolution, 2,499,844.75 euros.

The publication of these grants has a direct effect on the users of municipal social services: the funds allow councils and mancomunidades to hire women who suffer from gender-based violence, facilitating their economic autonomy and their exit from the protection circuit. Furthermore, the distribution makes it evident that the response to sexist violence depends largely on the financial and technical capacity of local administrations.
