Galicia calls for 8.28 million for municipal 0-3 infant schools

The Department of Social Policy and Equality of the Xunta de Galicia published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG no. 175, of September 15, 2026) the extract of the Order of September 4, 2026, which regulates the bases and announces the grants for the operation and free educational care of municipal 0-3 infant schools and childhood care points (PAI) for the 2026/27 academic year. The call, processed under procedure code BS420D, is registered in the National Grants Database with the identifier BDNS 928821.

The order, signed by the counselor Fabiola García Martínez, establishes a total budget of €8,278,584.00, allocated to budget application 08.02.312B.460.01, under a non-competitive concurrence regime. The grants are aimed at the support of existing 0-3 infant education centers and the compensation of the 100% discount on the price of educational care and enrollment for places occupied by students aged 0-3.

Two lines of aid

The call is organized into two distinct lines:

• Line 1 (maintenance), with €3,315,092.00 (€1,205,488.00 in 2026 and €2,109,604.00 in 2027), to compensate for personnel costs and other general expenses of the center.
• Line 2 (free educational care), with €4,963,492.00 (€1,804,906.00 in 2026 and €3,158,586.00 in 2027), to compensate for the application of the 100% price discount.

The eligible period for both lines spans from September 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. If a surplus remains in one line, the credit of the other may be increased.

Amounts per module

The maintenance aid for Line 1 is calculated based on the number of authorized units in operation, according to the following annual modules:

• PAI: €9,212.00 per unit.
• 0-3 infant school with 2 to 6 units: €7,000.00 per unit.
• 0-3 infant school with 7 to 14 units: €6,000.00 per unit.
• 0-3 infant school with more than 14 units: €4,600.00 per unit.

In centers with an opening schedule of 14 hours or more, the aid per module is increased by 25%. Line 2 is compensated based on the places effectively occupied, with an amount equivalent to the monthly price of a public place according to Decree 49/2012, for a maximum of 11 monthly payments, and the enrollment fee cannot exceed €100.00.

Beneficiaries and requirements

Municipalities of the Autonomous Community of Galicia that have one or several 0-3 infant schools or a PAI under their ownership with an activity start permit may apply for the grants. Among the requirements, it is demanded that students follow the vaccination calendar of the Galician vaccination program, that the center applies the price regime of Decree 49/2012, and that the municipality is up to date with the Court of Auditors and the co-financing regime of Law 2/2017.

Girls and boys with specific educational support needs occupy two places, therefore the grant is multiplied by two. Unjustified absence for 5 days will result in removal from the gratuity program of line 2.

Application period

The period for submitting applications begins at 8:00 AM on the sixth business day following the publication of the order in the DOG and ends at 11:59 PM on the day one month after the opening. For centers that obtain the start permit later, the period will be one month from the notification and, in any case, will end on October 30, 2026.

This call consolidates the Xunta’s commitment to the gratuity of early childhood education from 0 to 3 years, a measure that directly relieves the budget of Galician families with young children and reinforces the municipal network of infant schools, key for reconciliation and the demographic boost in Galicia.
