Biodiversity Foundation opens grants for environmental NGOs through competitive bidding

The Biodiversity Foundation, F.S.P. has approved the call for grants, on a competitive basis, aimed at non-governmental organizations for the support and participation in the execution of public policies under state jurisdiction. The decision is detailed in the extract of the Resolution of August 13, 2026, from its Directorate, published in the Official State Gazette (Boletín Oficial del Estado) number 209, of August 26, 2026, in section V-B, page 45149, with official reference BOE-B-2026-27852.
The call is published in accordance with articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, and its full text can be consulted in the National Subsidies Database (identifier 926034). The extract is signed in Madrid by the director of the entity, Félix Romero Cañizares.
Purpose and Beneficiaries
The purpose of the call is the co-financing of activities of non-governmental organizations whose primary objective is the defense and protection of the environment and which are part of the Environmental Advisory Council, for their participation in the field of biodiversity and climate change in support of environmental public policies under state jurisdiction.
Non-profit entities contemplated in section 3.1.a) of Order TED/818/2021, of July 12, that meet the following requirements may be beneficiaries:
- Be legally constituted and domiciled in Spanish territory, with at least five years of existence.
- Have the primary objective of the defense and protection of the environment with a state-wide scope of action.
- Be registered in the corresponding administrative registry and declared of public utility.
- Be included in the annex of Royal Decree 2355/2004, of December 23, which regulates the Environmental Advisory Council.
- Possess accredited international experience in environmental federations, forums, and conventions.
- Have their management subject to external audit for at least the last three years.
Entities that meet the invalidating circumstances provided for in article 13, sections 2, 3, and 3 bis, of Law 38/2003 are excluded.
Funding and Amounts
The regulatory bases for the grant are those approved by Order TED/818/2021, of July 12, which regulates the competitive grants of the Biodiversity Foundation to finance research and activities for ecological transition, conservation of natural heritage, and the fight against climate change. The amounts for the call are:
- Maximum global allocation: up to €800,000.00.
- Maximum amount per application: up to €230,000.00.
- Maximum grant percentage: up to 90% of the total project amount.
Deadline and Processing
The application period will be 20 business days starting from the next business day following the publication of the summary in the Official State Gazette. The full text of the call and the remaining information regarding the process will be available on the electronic office and on the Biodiversity Foundation website.
The call represents a significant opportunity for the environmental third sector, which will be able to access public funding for biodiversity and climate change projects within the framework of state policies. Interested entities must verify compliance with the requirements and submit their applications within the established deadline.
