Fuerteventura increases scholarships by 2.25 million for studying off-island
Por FactBox Admin

The Insular Council of Fuerteventura has approved an increase of 2,250,000.00 euros in the credit for the call for study grants for the pursuit of official in-person and blended studies outside the island, corresponding to the 2026/2027 academic year. The decision is formalized through resolution 6368/2026, issued on September 11, 2026, by the counselor of the Insular Area of Water, Education and Youth, Primary Sector and Waste, Adargoma Hernández Rodríguez, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas number 111, dated September 16, 2026.
The expansion is added to the original call, approved by resolution 5519/2026 of July 30, 2026, and reinforces the allocation destined for students from Fuerteventura pursuing official studies outside the island. The expenditure is authorized against the budgetary application 40240.3260U.4811126, titled “Grants for studies outside the island: 2026/2027 academic year,” of the current General Budget of the Council, withheld through operation number 220260035437 with reference 22026006181.
Scope of the expansion
The increase of 2.25 million euros is exclusively destined for grants for official studies in in-person and blended modalities outside Fuerteventura, and is part of the study aid package that the Council has activated for the 2026/2027 academic year. Other complementary calls from the same body are published in the same gazette:
- Grants for studies on the island (in-person, blended, and distance learning), with an increase of 1,000,000.00 euros (resolution 5522/2026).
- Accommodation grants for students in publicly owned school residences in Fuerteventura.
- Grants in kind for linguistic immersion.
- Mobility grants for university students in the European Socrates-Erasmus, Sicue-Séneca, and similar programs.
Procedure and appeals
Resolution 6368/2026, signed in Puerto del Rosario on September 11, 2026, orders the notification of the Comptroller’s Office and the Accounting Management Service of the Council, as well as the publication of the announcement in the official gazette. As it does not exhaust administrative remedies, an administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) may be filed against the resolution before the body that issued it or before the Presidency of the Insular Council of Fuerteventura, within one month of its notification.
The maximum period to resolve the administrative appeal is three months, after which, without an express resolution, it will be understood as dismissed. No other administrative appeal may be filed against the resolution of the appeal, except for the extraordinary review appeal in the cases provided for in Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.
Impact for students from Fuerteventura
The expansion of 2.25 million euros represents a significant reinforcement of the Cabildo’s scholarship policy, which seeks to guarantee access to higher education for students from Fuerteventura who must travel off-island to pursue official studies. The coverage of both in-person and blended learning modalities expands the range of beneficiaries, while the specific budget line “Scholarships for studies off-island” ensures the funding of the call for the 2026/2027 academic year.
With this measure, the island institution consolidates its commitment to equal educational opportunities in an insular territory where geographical mobility is a necessary condition to access a large part of the university and vocational training offer.
