Fuengirola initially approves the 2027 municipal budget
Por FactBox Admin

The Fuengirola City Council has initially approved its general budget for the 2027 fiscal year, an agreement that defines the municipal expenditure and investment for the coming year and opens the claims process prior to its entry into force. The resolution is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Málaga on November 4, 2026, within section 3 (City Council), under the official reference Edict 4239/2026.
The first step of the budgetary procedure
The initial approval is the act by which the municipal government sets its proposed accounts for the following year and submits them to the control of the rest of the corporation and the citizenry. This is not yet the final document: the agreement adopted within the corporation is made available to the public so that any person or entity with a legitimate interest may examine it and present any allegations they deem appropriate.
The applicable framework is that of the Law Regulating Local Treasuries, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 2/2004, which regulates the content of the general budget of local entities and the itinerary that must be followed until its final approval. The edict from the BOP of Málaga formalizes the publication of the agreement and activates this period of public information, a necessary condition for the budget to acquire full legal efficacy.
The publication also occurs within a context of intense administrative activity in the municipality, as the same issue of the gazette includes three other actions by the Fuengirola City Council in the field of urban planning.
What the general budget comprises
The general budget of a local entity is not a single document, but a set of forecasts that local treasury regulations order in an integrated manner:
- The budget of the municipal entity itself, with the revenue forecast and the detail of expenditure credits by area of action.
- The forecast statements of the autonomous bodies dependent on the city council.
- The accounts of the commercial companies with entirely municipal capital.
- The consolidated statements that aggregate the magnitudes of all the previous entities.
- The annexed documentation, which includes the budget execution bases and the personnel staffing table.
In practical terms, the document determines how much is allocated to public services, city maintenance, social policies, security, culture, sports, and new construction, and with what income—fees, taxes, transfers, and debt—those actions are financed.
Other municipal announcements of the day
The presence of the budget in the summary of November 4 shares space with three other publications from the same council:
- Edict 4082/2026: initial approval of the land redistribution project within the SUNC-4 area of the PGOU.
- Edict 4099/2026: initial approval of the land redistribution project within the SUNC-7 area of the PGOU.
- Edict 4239/2026: initial approval of the general budget for 2027.
The first two affect urban planning and the organization of specific land within the municipal district; the third has a general economic scope over the entire city.
Effects for residents and suppliers
The opening of the claims phase has direct consequences for two groups. Residents, first, have a formal channel to challenge the direction of municipal spending before it is consolidated. Local suppliers and contractors, second, need to know the planned budget items to anticipate tenders, plan contracts, and adjust their billing forecasts for the new fiscal year.
The 2027 budget will also determine the city council’s capacity to meet its investment and service provision commitments throughout the year, making its processing the most significant economic matter on the municipal calendar for the end of 2026.
