Festas locais de 2027: os 313 concellos galegos xa teñen calendario

The 313 municipalities of the four Galician provinces already know the two local public holidays they will enjoy in 2027. The General Secretariat of Employment and Labor Relations, under the Ministry of Employment, Trade and Emigration, publicized the complete calendar through the Resolution of October 15, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) no. 204, on Monday, October 26, 2026, between pages 53713 and 53730 (reference CVE-DOG: dachj8v5-dwi3-xtm8-r0h9-szyfopannda5).

The dates are listed as non-working days for labor purposes, paid and non-recoverable, and are distributed across four annexes: I for the province of A Coruña (93 municipalities), II for Lugo (67), III for Ourense (92), and IV for Pontevedra (61). The resolution was signed by Susana Pérez Iglesias and is based on article 37.2 of Legislative Royal Decree 1/1995, of March 24, and article 46 of Royal Decree 2001/1983, of July 28, as well as article 1 of Decree 68/2026, of June 15, which determines the 2027 labor calendar in the community (DOG no. 122, of July 2).

The concentration in a single official gazette responds to article 2 of Decree 103/2015, of July 15, and the convenience of allowing local festivities to be consulted without resorting to several provincial bulletins. Each municipality has exactly two dates, which are added to the regional and national holidays.

Shrove Tuesday, the most repeated date

February 9, Shrove Tuesday (Martes de Entroido), is the most chosen day: it appears in more than 150 of the 313 municipalities, with a dominant presence in the provinces of A Coruña, Lugo, and Ourense. Among the cities, A Coruña, Lugo, and Ourense opt for this date.

A dozen municipalities prefer Ash Wednesday, February 10, such as Fene, Outes, Castrelo do Val, Laza, Oímbra, Verín, Viana do Bolo, Vilardevós, and Pontevedra. Cualedro combines Tuesday and Wednesday, Monfero and Vilarmaior enjoy Monday and Tuesday (February 8 and 9), and O Porto do Son, Beariz, Sarreaus, and Vilariño de Conso start with Monday, February 8.

San Xoán, San Roque, and El Carmen dominate the second dates

Outside the Carnival cycle, four devotions concentrate the majority of the second days:

  • San Xoán, on June 24, in municipalities such as Cambre, Culleredo, Oleiros, Narón, Noia, Sarria, Antas de Ulla, Monterroso, Nigrán, Poio and Cuntis.
  • San Roque, on August 16, which in 2027 falls on a Monday and allows for a long weekend in Santiago de Compostela, Betanzos, Ordes, Sada, Trazo, Ribadeo, Viveiro, Meira, Celanova, Riós, Gondomar, Valga, Vilagarcía de Arousa and Sanxenxo.
  • The Virxe do Carme, on July 16, in Baiona, Bueu, Cambados, Marín, Moaña, O Grove, A Guarda, Cervo, Foz, Corcubión, Melide, Muros and Camariñas.
  • San Martiño, on November 11, is predominant in Ourense: Barbadás, Coles, Esgos, A Merca, Muíños, O Pereiro de Aguiar, A Peroxa, Piñor, Ramirás, San Cibrao das Viñas, Taboadela, Toén and Vilamarín, as well as Bueu, O Grove, Moaña, Forcarei, Vilaboa, Quiroga and Teo.

Unique festivals, gastronomy and local bridges

The calendar includes celebrations with a strong local identity, many linked to gastronomy and the sea:

  • Allariz: May 28, festival of the Ox. A Arnoia: July 30, festival of the Pepper.
  • Chantada: August 24, festival of the Empanada. Silleda: July 9, festival of the Ham, and August 23, festival of the Empanada.
  • Pantón (Wine fair, May 10), Barro (Wine festival, June 18) and Ribadumia (Red Wine festival, June 4).
  • Redondela: May 27, Thursday of the Coca. Cangas de Morrazo: March 19, Friday of Sorrows.
  • A Guarda: September 23, Santa Trega. Muxía: September 13, Monday of the Boat. Ribeira: July 24, festivity of the Dorna.
  • Ares and Mugardos: May 18, Voto de Chanteiro. Ferrol: January 7, San Xiao, and March 29, Our Lady of Chamorro.
  • Lugo and O Corgo: October 5, San Froilán. Mondoñedo: October 18, As San Lucas. Pedrafita do Cebreiro: September 9, pilgrimage of the Santo Milagre.
  • Celanova: March 1, San Rosendo. A Gudiña: February 25, Blessed Sebastián de Aparicio. Oia: December 27, Santa Uxía.

Some municipalities concentrate the two dates on consecutive days, creating long weekends: Carballo and A Estrada (June 24 and 25), Lalín (September 20 and 21), Vila de Cruces (August 9 and 10), Agolada (June 29 and 30), As Somozas (July 23 and 26), Vilalba (August 31 and September 1) and Pontedeume (September 8 and 10).

Obligation to display the calendar in the workplace

The second point of the resolution recalls that, according to article 34.6 of the Workers’ Statute, companies must have the labor calendar displayed in a visible place in each center for staff consultation. Non-compliance constitutes a labor infringement, as specified in article 6 of Royal Legislative Decree 5/2000, of August 4.

The 2027 calendar already conditions vacation planning, contract negotiations, and commercial and hospitality activity throughout Galicia. The coincidence of August 16 falling on a Monday and the concentration of long weekends in February, June, August, and September anticipate a year of long weekends in much of the territory, a factor that tour operators and small businesses will take into account from now on.
