Ferrol destina 69.500 euros a deportistas e clubs en campionatos nacionais

The Ferrol City Council has approved the guidelines for granting aid for the promotion of Ferrolan athletes and Ferrolan sports clubs and entities, with the aim of facilitating their participation in national and international competitions. The call, processed by the Department of Sports and approved by the Local Government Board, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of A Coruña no. 210, corresponding to Tuesday, November 3, 2026, under announcement number 2026/7148. The total budget amounts to 69,500 euros, charged to budget application 05004-3411-480.00 of the 2026 budget.

The measure is part of strategic line 4 of the Strategic Grant Plan of the Ferrol City Council for the 2024-2026 period, dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of sport, and its objective to alleviate the high cost of competing in performance categories. The text invokes as its legal framework Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, Royal Decree 887/2006, and Law 9/2007, of June 13, on Subsidies of Galicia, in addition to the General Grant Ordinance of the Ferrol City Council. The statement of reasons emphasizes that the aid seeks to “incentivize the permanence of athletes in the municipality” and strengthen the bond between the city and its “sports ambassadors.” The regulation establishes two independent lines of subsidies, with a closed distribution of funds.

45,500 euros for athletes and 24,000 for clubs

  • Line 4.2, aid for Ferrolan athletes: 45,500 euros, of which 33,500 euros are distributed among applicants up to 35 years of age completed in the year of the call and 12,000 euros among those over 35.
  • Line 4.3, aid for Ferrolan sports clubs and entities: 24,000 euros for entities that obtained a place in the Spanish Championship of their specialty.

The municipal Administration reserves the possibility of modifying these amounts based on the applications submitted, to achieve “a more equitable and egalitarian economic distribution.” If the available credit is insufficient, a proportional distribution will be applied among all amounts; if any line is not exhausted, the remaining credit may be accumulated to the other.

Amounts according to championship, distance, and age

The procedure is processed under a non-competitive concurrence regime: there is no comparison between applications, but rather verification of the fulfillment of requirements. In the case of individual athletes, the amount results from adding the participation amount and the distance amount.

  • Participating in a world championship: 1,000 euros.
  • Participating in a European championship: 750 euros.
  • Participating in a Spanish Championship: 500 euros.
  • Location between 200 and 500 km from Ferrol: 130 euros additional.
  • Between 501 and 1,000 km: 260 euros.
  • Between 1,001 and 2,000 km: 520 euros.
  • Between 2,001 and 3,000 km: 780 euros.
  • More than 3,000 km: 1,040 euros.

If the venue is less than 200 km away, only the participation amount will be paid. For collective disciplines in an international scope or higher, limits are established at 4,000 euros for a world championship and 3,500 euros for a European championship, distributed evenly among all applicants who make up the team. In the case of clubs, the aid is 3,000 euros for participating in the Spanish Championship.

Requirements: registration, federation and three seasons

  • Be registered in the City Council of Ferrol before the start of the subsidized season.
  • Be a member of a Ferrol club for at least the last three seasons, including the one for which the aid is requested.
  • Be federated and maintain the official license in the modality for which the aid is requested.
  • Prove participation in high-level official competitions through a federative certificate.
  • Not be a professional athlete nor be serving a final serious or very serious sanction in sporting matters.
  • Be up to date with obligations to the state, regional, and local Treasury and Social Security.

In the case of clubs, it is required to be a non-profit entity with a headquarters or delegation in the municipal area, registered in the municipal registry of entities under the sports heading. Sports federations, sports promotion bodies, and entities of a purely internal or social nature are excluded. Each athlete can only request aid for a single championship, even if they participated in several during the season (from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026).

Fifteen business days and single payment

Applications must be submitted through the Citizen Portal of the Electronic Office of the City Council of Ferrol, using standardized forms. In the case of minors, fathers, mothers, guardians, or legal representatives may sign; for athletes under the care or guardianship of the Xunta de Galicia, the person in charge of the juvenile center or the foster family. The deadline is 15 business days counting from the day following the publication of the call summary in the BOP.

The assessment corresponds to a Valuation Commission presided over by the delegated councillor for Sports, with representatives from each municipal group, a technician, and an official acting as secretary with voice but without vote. The grant shall be resolved by a resolution of the special delegated councillor for Sports, in accordance with the agreement of the Local Government Board of December 11, 2023. The maximum notification period is three months from the end of the application period, after which the lack of a resolution produces dismissive effects. Payment is made in a single deposit via bank transfer, without advances, and the grants are compatible with other public or private subsidies for the same purpose.

Impact for families and clubs

The call directly affects the city’s grassroots sports fabric and families with federated athletes, who assume travel, stays, and registrations to compete outside of Galicia. The fact that the aid covers up to 1,040 additional euros for travel of more than 3,000 kilometers is especially relevant for modalities that compete in European and world championships. As an obligation, the beneficiaries must collaborate with the Ferrol City Council in the promotion of sports within the municipal area and attend the municipal Sports Gala if requested, unless prevented by competition commitments.
