Ferrol announces the Concepción Arenal, Comerma, and Usero research awards

The Ferrol City Council has opened the public call for the Concepción Arenal, Enxeñeiro Comerma, and Antonio Usero research awards for the year 2026, each endowed with 10,000 euros. The extract was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of A Coruña number 180, on September 21, 2026, under announcement number 2026/6027. Applications may be submitted within a period of 30 calendar days starting from the day following the publication.

Legal framework and processing

The call is processed in accordance with the provisions of articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of Law 38/2003, of November 17, general subsidies law, and its full text is available in the National Subsidies Database with the identifier 929587. The awards are regulated by the specific bases published in BOP no. 193, of October 9, 2025, which establish the valuation criteria for the works (Eighth Base), the competent bodies for organization and instruction (Tenth Base), the documentation that must accompany the application (Fifth and Sixth Bases and annexes), and the rules for dissemination and publication (Sixteenth Base).

The announcement was signed in Ferrol on September 15, 2026, by the delegated councilwoman for Education, University, and Linguistic Policy, Patricia María Cons Formoso.

Three awards for three fields of knowledge

The awards aim to support and promote research work carried out in any of the five university fields with which they are related, from a historical, present, or future projection perspective. The winning works are distributed as follows:

• Concepción Arenal Research Award: field of Social and Legal Sciences and the university degrees included therein.
• Enxeñeiro Comerma Research Award: field of Arts and Humanities and the university degrees included therein.
• Antonio Usero Research Award: field of Health Sciences and the university degrees included therein.

Who can apply and with which works

Regardless of their nationality, the following may apply for the awards:

• Individuals, with a professional profile or a researcher profile.
• Multiprofessional teams or groups, composed only of professionals, only of researchers, or both.

The works may address the object of the call from a strictly theoretical approach, based on the analysis of concrete experiences or facts, or as future projects.

Economic endowment and application deadline

Each edition of each award is endowed with 10,000 euros, charged to budget item 05003 3263 48000, an amount to which the corresponding withholdings will be applied based on current tax regulations. The deadline for submitting applications is 30 calendar days from the day following the publication of the extract in the Boletín Oficial da Provincia da Coruña.

The call thus maintains three lines of scientific recognition with a joint endowment of 30,000 euros and no nationality restriction, which expands the range of candidacies beyond the local scope and reinforces Ferrol’s role as a center of support for university research.
