Ferrol announces 30 driver firefighter positions via internal promotion

The Ferrol City Council announces 30 firefighter-driver positions through internal promotion, an offer published in the Official Gazette of the Province of A Coruña number 187, dated September 30, 2026. The resolution approving the call and the rules is dated September 24, 2026, and was issued by the councilwoman delegated to the area of Finance and Human Resources, Susana María Sanjurjo Fraga. The official announcement is 2026/6254.

The positions are framed within the special administration scale, special services subscale, fire extinction and rescue class, group C, subgroup C1, and are included in the Public Employment Offer corresponding to the 2026 fiscal year. The selection system is that of a competitive examination (concurso-oposición) and the turn is for internal promotion from subgroup C2, in accordance with article 61.6 of Legislative Royal Decree 5/2015 and article 56.1 of Law 2/2015 on public employment in Galicia.

The complementary remuneration will be those provided for the position of firefighter-driver in the City Council’s Job Position List, published in BOP number 248, dated December 29, 2025. The resolution ends the administrative route.

Requirements and submission of applications

• Be a career civil servant of the Ferrol City Council in the category of firefighter-driver, group C, subgroup C2, with a minimum seniority of two years since taking office.
• Not exceed the maximum compulsory retirement age and possess functional capacity for the performance of the position.
• Not have been separated from service through disciplinary proceedings nor be subject to disqualification from public office.
• Hold a high school diploma (bacharel) or equivalent; personnel with 10 years in subgroup C2 or with 5 years and the completion of a specific training course are exempt from this requirement.
• Accredit Celga IV or a higher degree; those who do not accredit it must pass a knowledge test of the Galician language.

Applications shall be submitted electronically through the city council’s headquarters within a period of twenty business days starting from the day following the publication of the call announcement in the Official State Gazette. The examination fee is 34.54 euros, in accordance with Fiscal Ordinance number 28.

Qualifying tribunal and development of tests

The tribunal will be presided over by a civil servant from any public administration belonging to the fire prevention and extinction service. The secretariat will correspond to the chief official of the council or the general secretary of the Plenary, with voice but without vote, and there will be three members, of whom at least two shall belong to extinction services of other public administrations.

The competition phase, which is not eliminatory, evaluates up to 40 points: professional experience (maximum 20), training (15), and knowledge of Galician (5). The examination phase, of up to 60 points, includes a multiple-choice questionnaire of 50 questions plus 5 reserve questions, with a maximum time of 75 minutes and a minimum of 30 points to pass, in addition to a mandatory Galician language exercise for those who do not hold the Celga IV. The order of appearance for the applicants begins with the letter “M”, according to the Resolution of January 22, 2026, published in DOG number 16.

Second call in the same station

On the same date, the Ferrol City Council published in BOP number 187 a second call, reference 2026/6257, to fill 4 positions of driver firefighter corporal, also through internal promotion and a competition-examination procedure from subgroup C2.

The call represents a large-volume renovation of the Ferrol fire station, as the 30 driver firefighter positions and the 4 corporal positions allow for the consolidation of the professional career of current personnel and reinforce the emergency response capacity in the municipality. An optional appeal for reversal may be filed against the resolution within one month, or a contentious-administrative appeal within two months.
