Extremadura distributes aid to 58 municipalities due to the March 2025 rains

The Vice Presidency and Ministry of Presidency, Coordination of Government Action, Interior and Emergencies of the Junta de Extremadura has publicized the grants awarded to 58 city councils and smaller local entities in the community to address the repair of damages caused by the heavy rains of March 2025. The list is published via the Resolution of August 24, 2026 of the General Secretariat, in the Official Gazette of Extremadura number 168, of August 31, 2026 (reference 2026062204).

The aid is granted under a direct award regime through an open and single call, regulated by Decree 22/2025, of April 3, which establishes the regulatory bases and approves the call (Extraordinary DOE no. 1, of April 5). The funds are allocated to the actions necessary to address the emergency situation that prevented or diminished the provision of municipal public services, guaranteeing assistance to residents.

Amounts and beneficiaries

The highest grant corresponds to Zalamea de la Serena, with 250,000 euros, destined for the renovation of the Arribalabilla castle tower, the repair of numerous public roads, the Cagancha stream bridge, the municipal pavilion, the food market, and the paddle tennis court, among other actions. It is followed by Puebla del Maestre (€175,394.69), Talayuela (€175,000), and Maguilla (€168,006.96).

• Alburquerque: €152,805.11 (pavilion roofs, “Fábrica de oro” building, and music kiosk).
• Berlanga: €149,726.04 (roads, house of culture, and street paving).
• Valencia de las Torres: €104,266.68 (Hornachos-Maguilla road and old bridge over the Matachel river).
• Oliva de la Frontera: €100,155.50 (replacement of the municipal pavilion roof).
• Azuaga: €99,536.92 (Borrachera stream frame and Matachel bridge embankment).

Actions on roads and services

The majority of the aid is concentrated on the repair of public roads, dips, bridges, and culverts damaged by the rains, as well as the restoration of municipal infrastructure. Examples include La Parra (€49,233.06) to adapt 13,500 meters of roads, Guadalupe (€98,454.42) for the collapse of the roadway on Eusebio González Avenue, and Coria (€88,297.29) for damages to the “Bajada del Cubo” and the Vega de la Torrecilla road.

• Piornal: €84,115.27 (Calderón waterfall dike, sports complex wall, and roads).
• Mengabril: €83,228.16 (facilities of the municipal swimming pool complex).
• Reina: €82,271.85 (roads of Valverde de Llerena, del Viar, and Cazalla).
• Medellín: €75,874.90 (roads of the Ortigas river).
• Valencia del Mombuey: €73,653.56 (urban crossing surface and elderly residence).

Legal Framework and Publicity

This publication responds to the mandate of Article 17.1 of Law 6/2011, of March 23, on Subsidies of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura, which requires the dissemination in the Official Gazette of Extremadura and on the Subsidies Portal of the grants awarded, stating the call, the program, the budget credit, the beneficiary, the amount, and the purpose. Likewise, pursuant to Article 11.1 of Law 4/2013, of May 21, on Open Government of Extremadura, subsidies granted outside of competitive bidding are published on the electronic Transparency Portal of the Junta.

All grants are charged to the budget application G/115B/76000 and the expenditure project 20250396, corresponding to the 2025 fiscal year. The resolution is signed by the Secretary General David González Gil in Mérida.

Impact for Municipalities

The dissemination of these subsidies allows the affected city councils and smaller local entities to transparently know the amounts assigned and the actions funded, and makes it easier for residents to track the repair of roads, bridges, pavilions, and other infrastructures damaged by the rains of March 2025. With a total distribution exceeding two million euros, the measure contributes to restoring public services and mitigating the impact of the emergency in the rural areas of Extremadura.
