Extremadura reparte 136.680 euros entre diez municipios para proyectos de patrimonio

The General Directorate of Cultural and Documentary Heritage, under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Regional Government of Extremadura, has resolved the granting of Line 2 of the grants for municipalities and smaller local entities intended for actions on immovable assets of historical and cultural heritage, for a total amount of 136,680.87 euros distributed among ten city councils. The decision is contained in the Resolution of October 20, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura (DOE) number 211, of November 3, 2026, with official reference 2026062740.

The resolved line is the one called “Drafting of works projects and master plans for immovable assets forming part of the historical and cultural heritage of Extremadura,” that is, the financing of the prior technical work that subsequently allows for the tendering and execution of the restoration. The grants were called via Resolution of April 7, 2026, and are governed by Decree 152/2025, of November 11, and by Law 6/2011, of March 23, on Subsidies of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura.

The file was resolved based on the minutes of the Evaluation Commission of August 4 and 6, 2026, and the proposal of the Head of the Cultural Heritage, Archives and Provincial Museums Service of October 13, 2026. The credit comes from the budgetary application 150030000/272A/76000, expenditure project 20250179 “Grants for the protection of historical and cultural heritage,” with financing source CAG0000001, from the General Budgets of the community for 2026.

Ten subsidized projects

The ten beneficiary city councils and their amounts are:

  • Botija City Council: Centro de Villasviejas del Tamuja-Tamusía, 15,000.00 euros (80.00 points).
  • Azuaga City Council: master plan for the Castle of Miramontes, 15,000.00 euros (77.50 points).
  • Herrera del Duque City Council: adaptation of the castle for visits, 14,500.64 euros (77.50 points).
  • Santibáñez el Alto City Council: castle, 11,616.00 euros (77.50 points).
  • Zalamea de la Serena City Council: “Arribalavilla” Castle, 14,400.00 euros (77.50 points).
  • Cáceres City Council: Aldea Moret Mining Village, 15,000.00 euros (73.14 points).

Advance payment and execution deadlines

Payment will be made in a single advance payment of 100% of the granted amount once the resolution is published in the DOE and accepted by the beneficiary entity. To process it, the city council must certify, via a responsible declaration, that it is up to date with State Treasury, Social Security, and regional administration; if it is not registered in the Third-Party Subsystem or the indicated account is not active, it will have five business days to submit the registration document.

The execution period begins on January 1, 2026, and ends 15 months from the day following the publication of the resolution. The first ten months are allocated to the drafting of the construction project or master plan, and the following five to obtaining the visa from the official college, where applicable, and the favorable report from the Provincial Commission of Historical Heritage. The justification must be submitted within three months following the end of execution, including the project, solvency certificates, and the final report.

Applications without aid

Along with those granted, the resolution publishes in Annex II five applications that met the requirements but were not approved due to the exhaustion of credit:

  • City Council of Fuentes de León: San Diego Convent Alcalá, 45.00 points.
  • City Council of Alange: Castle of the Culebra de Alange, 42.50 points.
  • City Council of Torrejoncillo: City Council of Torrejoncillo, 37.50 points.
  • City Council of Aceuchal: Los Rangel Manor House, 27.50 points.
  • City Council of Almendral: Castillejo Bridge, 27.50 points.

Annex III lists five rejected applications: City Council of Capilla due to withdrawal, City Council of Montemolín and City Council of Olivenza for failure to submit corrections, and City Council of Llerena and City Council of Coria because the actions were not eligible for subsidies according to Article 5 of the call.

Appeal and control

The resolution does not end the administrative process: an administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) may be filed before the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports within one month from the day following its publication. Failure to comply with justification or purpose obligations implies total revocation, while failures in publicity or communication result in the revocation of 50% of the amount.

The resolution was signed in Mérida on October 20, 2026, by José Luis Gil Soto, Secretary General of Culture, due to the recusal of the Director General in accordance with the Resolution of October 15, 2026, of the General Secretariat.

The publication is of particular interest to small town councils, which, without this funding, would find it difficult to undertake the technical drafting of interventions in castles, hermitages, and historical complexes. It also creates work for architecture firms and restoration companies that are contracted for these projects, the commissioning of which is now subject to deadlines of ten months for drafting and five for the approval and report of the Provincial Historical Heritage Commission.
