Extremadura regula ayudas a la formación docente con 81.163 euros

The Governing Council of the Junta de Extremadura approved Decree 171/2026 on October 6, 2026, which establishes the new regulatory bases for grants for teacher participation in continuing education activities and approves the corresponding call for this year. The regulation, signed by counselor Sandra Victoria Valencia Ramos and president María Guardiola Martín, is published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura (DOE) number 207, dated October 27, 2026, within section I of general provisions, with official reference 2026040216. On that same day, the summary of the call appears, with reference 2026040224 and identification number in the National Grants Database BDNS (Identif.): 937487.

A pro-rata system to reach all teaching staff

The decree replaces Decree 192/2012, of September 21 —modified by Decree 253/2014, of November 18—, which is expressly repealed, although pending files will continue to be governed by the previous regulations. The text is based on article 102 of Organic Law 3/2020 and article 158.2 of Law 4/2011, of March 7, on Education of Extremadura, which recognize continuing education as a right and duty of the teaching staff, and entrusts its management to the General Directorate of Innovation and Educational Inclusion.

The main novelty is the use of the pro-rata system provided for in article 22.1 of Law 6/2011, of March 23, on Grants of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura. If the amounts requested by the selected beneficiaries exceed the available credit, the individual amounts will be calculated by applying to each application the proportion between the maximum credit and the total sum of entitlements. The Department thus seeks a “universal” reach and aims to avoid tie-breaking criteria that exclude teachers, in addition to giving the grant a “vocation for permanence over time.”

81,163 euros in three grant tiers

The 2026 call has 81,163.00 euros available, charged to budget application G/221B/48000, project 20060089 and managing body 13012.0000 of the regional budgets approved by Law 2/2026, of August 3. The maximum amounts per activity are:

  • Up to 800 euros for undergraduate and postgraduate university studies at public universities or at the UNED.
  • Up to 400 euros for Vocational Training qualifications and for special regime language teaching and professional degrees in music and dance.
  • Up to 300 euros for courses, conferences, congresses, workshops, and seminars from public institutions recognized as training entities, with a minimum of 10 hours.

Registration or enrollment fees and mandatory or recommended teaching materials provided by the training entity shall be eligible for subsidies. The credit may be increased by up to 20% before the resolution, without a new call for applications.

Requirements, criteria, and deadlines

Teaching staff in active service assigned to centers supported by public funds in Extremadura at levels prior to University, as well as those assigned to Educational and Psychopedagogical Guidance Teams, Teacher and Resource Centers, and Department services, may apply for the grants. Anyone who has enjoyed fully or partially paid study leaves during the activity is excluded.

The eligible training must have been completed between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026, with a certificate of completion at the time of application. The assessment combines the content (up to 4 points for scientific-didactic subjects of the own area, 3 for educational technologies and languages, 2 for tutoring, attention to diversity, values education, center organization, or occupational health, and 1 for other lines of the Framework Plan), the organizing entity (3 points for entities with an agreement, UNED, and UEX; 2 for other public universities; 1 for other public entities), and the administrative status, up to 2 points. It is essential to reach 5 points.

The application period begins on October 28 and ends on October 31, 2026, via the electronic office. The instruction corresponds to the General Directorate of Innovation and Educational Inclusion, with an assessment commission chaired by the Head of the Innovation and Teacher Training Service, and the resolution to the General Secretariat of the Department, with a maximum period of three months and negative administrative silence. The decree enters into force the day following its publication.

Impact for the school year

For the first time in over a decade, the regulation organizes the framework for these grants and turns them into a stable resource throughout the teaching career, with objective criteria and a distribution that prioritizes equal access over competitive distribution. For Extremaduran teachers, it implies a very tight schedule—four days to apply—and the obligation to prove payment and completion of the activity, a requirement that conditions the full collection of the grant, which is compatible with other subsidies as long as the actual cost of the training is not exceeded.
