Extremadura appoints the commission that will evaluate the grants for asbestos removal

The General Directorate of Labor of the Regional Ministry of Economy, Employment and Digital Transformation has made public the composition of the Evaluation Commission responsible for assessing the applications for the second call for grants destined for the removal of lightweight roofing containing asbestos materials and the installation of fall protection measures at workplaces in the Autonomous Community of Extremadura for the year 2026. This is stated in the Resolution of August 25, 2026, signed by the Director General of Labor, Pilar Bueno Espada, and published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura number 170, of September 2, 2026 (reference 2026062219).

Regulatory Framework

The designation is carried out in accordance with Article 14.3 of Decree 49/2025, of June 3, which establishes the regulatory bases for these grants and approves the second call. Said provision requires that the composition of the commission be stated in each call and that the specification of its members be published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura once the application submission period has ended.

The composition is further supported by the Resolution of July 10, 2026 of the General Secretariat (DOE no. 146, of July 30), which serves as the basis for the appointment of the members.

Composition of the Commission

The collegiate body consists of four members, with the following structure:

• President: Mr. Jorge García Paniagua, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Service.
• Member: Mr. Fernando Guerrero González, Occupational Risk Prevention technician.
• Member: Ms. Sandra Gómez Moreno, legal advisor to the General Directorate of Labor.
• Secretary: Mr. Javier Durán Romero, legal advisor to the General Directorate of Labor.

Operating Regime

In the event of substitution, vacancy, absence, or illness of any of the members, the rules established in Law 40/2015, of October 1, on the Legal Regime of the Public Sector, shall be followed, to which the commission itself adheres in its operation according to Articles 15 and following of said regulation.

The resolution, dated in Mérida on August 25, 2026, represents a key step for the disbursement of aid aimed at eliminating a primary occupational risk: the presence of asbestos in lightweight roofing and the danger of falls from height in Extremaduran workplaces. With the commission now constituted, companies in the region will be able to have their applications resolved and undertake the security actions required by occupational risk prevention regulations.
