Extremadura announces the entrance exams for sports education 2026-2027

The General Secretariat of Education of the Regional Ministry of Education and Vocational Training has announced, by means of the Resolution of July 27, 2026, the maturity and specific tests for access to special regime sports education and sports training in the transitional period corresponding to the 2026-2027 academic year. The call is published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura number 162, of August 21, 2026, with official reference 2026061975, and is signed by the General Secretary of Education, José Pedro Catalán Durán.

The resolution is issued under the Order of August 24, 2016, which regulates these tests in the Autonomous Community of Extremadura (DOE no. 168, of August 31), amended by the Order of May 24, 2023 (DOE no. 103, of May 31). Its fourth article establishes that the call will be made once a year by resolution of the General Secretary of Education, published in the official bulletin. The competence is based on Decree 18/2026, of April 30, which assigns to the General Secretariat of Education the coordination and supervision of non-university education matters regulated by Law 4/2011, of March 7, on Education of Extremadura.

Purpose and recipients

The call comprises two types of tests for the 2026-2027 academic year:

• The maturity tests for access to special regime sports education and sports training in the transitional period.
• The specific access tests, where applicable, for the initial cycle and the final cycle of the Intermediate Degree, as well as the Higher Degree, in the sports modalities or specialties that require it.

Applications and deadline

Registration applications shall be submitted according to the models in Annexes I, II, III, and IV of the resolution, depending on the type of test. The submission period is 10 business days starting from the day following the publication in the Official Gazette of Extremadura. They may be submitted via two channels:

• In person, at the offices of the management of IES Al-Qázeres, in Cáceres, or at the Citizen Assistance Offices of the Single Registry System of the regional administration.
• Electronically, through the General Electronic Access Point of the Junta de Extremadura, using a valid electronic certificate.

The application shall be submitted by the interested person if they are of legal age; if they are a minor, it must be done by the person exercising their legal guardianship. To formalize the registration, the corresponding public price shall be paid under concept 13130-2 “Access test for special regime sports education,” with the discounts and exemptions provided for in Decree 269/2023, of October 31.

Commissions and test calendar

Evaluation committees will be established, presided over by an Education inspector, with members from the teaching staff of the professor and secondary education bodies. The tests will be held at the IES Al-Qázeres, in Cáceres:

• The maturity tests, during the first fortnight of September.
• The specific character tests, during the second fortnight of September.

The provisional lists of admitted and excluded candidates will be displayed on the center’s website and notice board, with a period of three business days to rectify the reasons for exclusion before the publication of the final lists.

Relevance

The call opens the door for the 2026-2027 academic year to all Extremaduran students interested in special regime sports education, both those who do not meet the academic requirements and those who must pass a specific test per modality. The resolution, which does not exhaust administrative remedies, allows for an appeal for reversal before the Minister of Education and Vocational Training within one month of its publication.
