Extremadura announces 693,807 euros for robotics in subsidized schools

The General Directorate of Innovation and Educational Inclusion of the Junta de Extremadura has approved the single call for grants destined for the community’s semi-private (concerted) centers for the acquisition of educational robotics and computational thinking equipment, within the framework of the “Código Escuela 4.0” program. The allocation amounts to 693,807.25 euros and the resolution, signed on July 7, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura number 163, dated August 24, 2026.

The call is framed within Decree 191/2025, of December 16, which establishes the regulatory bases for these grants (DOE no. 245, of December 22), promoted by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports. Its purpose is to provide centers with the financial means to acquire the necessary equipment and to generalize the development of digital competencies linked to computational thinking and educational robotics among teachers and students.

Beneficiaries and financing

Semi-private centers supported by public funds in Extremadura that provide the second cycle of Early Childhood Education, Primary, and Compulsory Secondary Education, as well as Special Education centers in their equivalent stages, may apply. The credit is assigned to budget application 222G/77000, expenditure project “20240137-Código Escuela 4.0”, charged to the 2024 budgets extended during the 2026 fiscal year.

The individualized amount depends on the number of authorized concerted units for the 2025/2026 academic year and the educational stage:

• Early Childhood: from €3,700 (1-3 units) to €5,000 (7 or more).
• Primary: from €3,000 (1-6 units) to €4,200 (13 or more).
• Secondary: from €2,900 (1-4 units) to €4,100 (9 or more).
• Special Education: from €1,400 (1-2 units) to €4,500 (5 or more).

Equipment and deadlines

Eligible expenses are limited to the acquisition of devices with the technical characteristics specified in Annex IV, with minimum quantities according to the stage and number of concerted classrooms. Models include programmable floor robots, microcontroller boards, electronics and programming kits, buildable piece-by-piece robots, and artificial intelligence cameras.

Applications shall be submitted electronically within fifteen business days from the simultaneous publication of the call and its summary in the DOE. Payment will be made in two installments: 70% upon notification of the grant and the remaining 30% once expenses have been justified. Execution must be completed within three months from the grant resolution, with an additional three months for justification.

Processing and evaluation

The procedure is resolved under a competitive bidding system through a single call, with a maximum period of three months for resolution. A Evaluation Committee, chaired by José Carlos Martín Iglesias, head of the Educational Technologies Service, will evaluate the applications based on criteria such as the percentage of teaching staff with certification in digital teaching competence, participation in STEM or robotics programs, and the center’s commitment to the sustainability of the project. The resolution, signed by the director general Carmen M.ª Gómez Labrador, will be published in the DOE and on the Grants Portal.

The call (reference 2026061825) and its summary (reference 2026062108, BDNS Identif. 922973) open the door for subsidized schools in Extremadura to modernize their classrooms with robotics and programming technology, a key step in bringing digital skills and computational thinking to thousands of Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary students in the region.
