Extremadura announces 35 vacancies for Local Police Officer via open competitive examination

The Vice Presidency and Ministry of the Presidency, Coordination of Government Action, Interior and Emergencies of the Junta de Extremadura has called for a unified selection process, via the open competition system and through the Single Tribunal, for the permanent filling of 35 Local Police Officer positions in city councils across the Autonomous Community. The call is formalized by the Order of September 1, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura number 170, dated September 2, 2026, and signed by the Vice President and Minister, Abel Bautista Morán.

The call is based on the exclusive competence that the Statute of Autonomy of Extremadura attributes to the region regarding the coordination of local police, developed by Law 7/2017, of August 1, on the Coordination of Local Police of Extremadura. Article 46.3 allows for single selection processes assumed by the Junta through a Single Tribunal, upon request from the city councils, a possibility that materialized with Decree 64/2022, of June 8, which regulates the selection systems and the Single Tribunal itself.

Positions and City Councils

The 35 positions belong to the Special Administration Scale, Special Services Subscale, Local Police Class, Group C, Subgroup C1, and are distributed among 20 municipalities that delegated the selection of their staff to the Junta de Extremadura:

• Badajoz (4), Azuaga (4) and Montijo (4)
• Alburquerque (3)
• Cáceres (2), Madrigal de la Vera (2), Monesterio (2) and Torremejía (2)
• Aceuchal, Almendralejo, Arroyo de la Luz, Burguillos del Cerro, Campanario, Ceclavín, Losar de la Vera, Maguilla, Puebla de la Calzada, Talarrubias, Torrejoncillo and Trujillo (1 each)

Requirements and Applications

To participate, applicants must have Spanish nationality, be at least 18 years old, hold a Bachiller, Technician degree or equivalent, and possess class A2 and B driving licenses before the selection course. The application period will be twenty business days from the publication of the announcement in the Official State Gazette, and the examination fee amounts to 23.12 euros, with exemptions for victims of terrorism and gender-based violence, and a 50% discount for unemployed persons.

Phases of the Selection Process

The competition phase, which is eliminatory in nature, consists of five tests:

• Knowledge test: 100-question test in 120 minutes, with 10 reserve questions
• Practical test: five practical cases scored from 0 to 10 points
• Physical tests: balance, speed, endurance, and coordination
• Psychotechnical test: psychological aptitude and suitability for the police profile
• Medical examination: in accordance with the exclusion table of Annex I

Those who pass the competitive examination must complete a selective course at the Public Security Academy of Extremadura (ASPEX), with a internship period at the destination city council. The Qualifying Tribunal will be presided over by Carlos Iván Gil Iglesias, with María Ángeles Muñoz Pelayo as secretary.

This is the second major call of this type in the region, following the Order of April 27, 2023, which offered 61 positions, and represents a wide-reaching public employment opportunity for candidates throughout Extremadura, who may apply for a stable position in the Local Police of their municipality.
