Extremadura announces 35 Local Police Officer positions via open competitive examination

The Regional Government of Extremadura, through the Ministry of Presidency, Coordination of Government Action, Interior and Emergencies, has announced a unified selection process via the open competitive examination system to fill 35 Local Police Officer positions in city councils across the region. The call is formalized by the Order of September 1, 2026, signed by Vice President and Minister Abel Bautista Morán, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 172, dated September 9, 2026, as Announcement 3516/2026.

The process is carried out through the Single Tribunal, a mechanism that allows municipalities that have delegated selection authority to the Regional Government to fill their vacancies jointly. On this occasion, 20 city councils have submitted to the Ministry the number, designation, and characteristics of the positions they wish to announce.

Regulatory Framework and Background

The call is based on Law 7/2017, of August 1, on the Coordination of Local Police of Extremadura, whose article 46.3 first introduced the possibility of single selection processes, and Decree 64/2022, of June 8, which regulates selection systems, the filling of positions, and the mobility of local police, as well as the Single Tribunal. The first process of this type was announced in 2023 for 61 positions.

As a novelty compared to previous calls, the period for challenging questions in the first two exercises is reduced from five to three business days from the publication of the correct answer key, for reasons of efficiency and procedural speed.

Positions and Municipalities

The 35 positions, classified in group C, subgroup C1, are distributed among the following city councils:

• Badajoz (4), Azuaga (4) and Montijo (4)
• Alburquerque (3)
• Cáceres (2), Madrigal de la Vera (2), Monesterio (2) and Torremejía (2)
• Aceuchal, Almendralejo, Arroyo de la Luz, Burguillos del Cerro, Campanario, Ceclavín, Losar de la Vera, Maguilla, Puebla de la Calzada, Talarrubias, Torrejoncillo and Trujillo (1 each)

Requirements, Deadlines and Tests

Applicants must have Spanish nationality, be at least 18 years old, hold a Bachiller or Technician degree (or equivalent higher qualification), have no criminal record for intentional crimes, and hold A2 and B class driver’s licenses before the selection course. The examination fee is 23.12 euros, with exemptions for victims of terrorism and gender-based violence, and a 50% discount for those who prove a legal status of unemployment.

The application period will be twenty business days from the publication of the announcement in the Official State Gazette. The competitive phase includes a knowledge test (100-question test in 120 minutes), a practical test based on five scenarios, physical tests, a psychotechnical test, and a medical examination, followed by a selective course at the Public Security Academy of Extremadura (ASPEX) and a internship period at the destination city council.
